Double Standards caused by "Political Correctness". gigglezlots: Just had an interesting experience in a room. I am certain that a lot of people will be wanting to "flame" me for it. In so many rooms, we get people who will act in a sanctimonious manner about their passions or favorite topics. Fine. However, if even a SLIGHT bit of dark humor is introduced, suddenly, you are "the bad guy". We all see the "be nice to everyone" stuff. Sexual orientation (FYI: I am bi), Religion (Christian vs. Islam), Nationalism (aka; ethnic jokes), and such. Cliquishness abounds. Set up to the situation: I'm in a room, and the conversations drifts to (of all things)... SUPERHEROS. In passing, we learn that in a recent comic book, the character of "Mary Jane" from Spiderman is dead. And, she died a virgin, because she never did fully hook up with Peter Parker (aka; Spiderman). My flippant (and admittedly NOT at all "PC" ) reply was something along the lines of; "Crap, because she is still a virgin, now she has to deal with all those dead suicide bombers." For this, several people jump my case and I am reported. Please note, I said SUICIDE BOMBER. Not "Crazy Muslim wearing a ticking turban screaming DEATH TO AMERICA". But nobody seems to have caught that. They were too busy jumping on the "I can't believe you said that!" bandwagon. (Also, can anyone tell me what is supposed to happen when I am "reported"? Based on several comments of a sexual harassment nature from a number of people that I have "reported", not a lot.) So, I am interested to see what (if anything) happens, should I go back to any room, where I will again be flooded with friend requests for sex chat-pm, naked skype, or other stupid comments ("Do you mind if I play with myself while we talk?" ), because after all, a small town girl who likes boys AND girls is an easy target. Makes me wonder if I should find another chat service to participate in. But as previous experience has shown me, these folks seem to be everywhere. Intelligent replies appreciated. Have a nice day. Either that or they are looking for a reason to make people upset. Okay, so the comment wasn't pc by ANY stretch of the imagination, but as another woman here in chat who has men hitting on her every time i come here, especially by guys from central europe or the middle east, I can relate to how you feel there is a double standard that the girls here are expected to just shut up and take it. Some people are just uptight, and if there's a room owner like that...well like minded people seek each other out. I bet there are enough rooms where that comment would only get laughs. And there are rooms where that comment would be ignored because people would be too outraged about Gwen and MJ getting mixed up  birdy55: birds of a feather flock together! I honestly do not follow the Superhero stories, so I am not up to date on who is who in the series. Aura: Hm, no doubt Charles knows how to deal with difficult teens, which seems to be the mental level a lot of wire club users are at. But his M.O. is showing understanding and acceptance...I'm afraid he might be a bit too soft. Not to mention he'll try to mental link with the people here and then we'll have a turned insane super telepath on our hands  Let's get Deadpool in here. He's already insane, doesn't take any shit and is less likely to turn wireclubbers into a brainwashed zombie army. |
