But order of operations states that multiplication and division come before addition and subtraction unless the addition and subtractions are bracketed. the Order of operations goes brackets, then multiplication/division, then addition/subtraction. hence one must do the 220x0.5 first, giving 110, which is then subtracted from 230, giving 120. The only way you can get 5 is to write it as (230-220)*0.5
