wildrose62: Okay, so all those NOT familiar with the term order of operations, you'll get the answer 5. But order of operations states that multiplication and division come before addition and subtraction unless the addition and subtractions are bracketed. the Order of operations goes brackets, then multiplication/division, then addition/subtraction. hence one must do the 220x0.5 first, giving 110, which is then subtracted from 230, giving 120. The only way you can get 5 is to write it as (230-220)*0.5
