Wild__: A man attempting to burglarize a Paradise Township, Penn., home found out that he picked the wrong residence when the homeowner, a Vietnam War veteran, defended his property with a firearm on Oct. 18, 2020.

The incident started around 4:45 p.m. that Sunday when a 38-year-old man from Bronx, N.Y., who police said was under the influence of drugs at the time, walked up to the residence. The owner of the home, a 72-year-old Vietnam vet, noticed a figure standing out front of his home while sitting in a chair in the living room. The homeowner then got up and went to the front door to talk to the individual.

The man then started telling the homeowner to call police and that a gang was trying to kill him. The homeowner then called authorities as the stranger asked and began to report what he had said. While on the phone with police and standing in his garage, the homeowner then heard a crash in his house. The stranger had broken through a window into the home.

Still on the phone with police, the homeowner confronted the would-be burglar in the kitchen and pulled out his pistol. He then held the intruder at gunpoint for 10 minutes until state police arrived. The homeowner said his experience from the war helped him keep composure during the incident, in which no shots were fired. The burglar was charged with criminal trespass, simple assault and criminal mischief. (wnep.com, Scranton, Penn., 10/20/2020)

Wild__: A man driving on the interstate in Kenton County, Ky., was forced to defend himself with his pistol after being involved in a road rage related crash, after which the driver of the other vehicle pointed a rifle at him through the car window on Oct. 9, 2020.

The man, from Cincinnati, Ohio, was driving Northbound that Friday on I-75 near Fort Mitchell, Ky., when he became the victim in a rolling road rage confrontation that ultimately resulted in the two vehicles crashing. After the crash both vehicles pulled to the side of the road. It was at this point that the other driver got out of his vehicle and approached the man's vehicle with a .30-'06 Sprg. Tikka bolt-action rifle in hand. The aggressor then pointed the rifle through the passenger side window into the man's face.

In response to the rifle being pointed in his face while he was still in his vehicle, the man drew his 9 mm Taurus handgun and fired at least four shots at the aggressor. The man called 911 at 1:22 p.m., just after the crash, recording a verbal confrontation between the two men and the gunshots. The man told the dispatcher he fired shots and struck the other man, after which he could be heard administering first aid to the wounded aggressor.

Police arrived to the scene of the crash around 1:30 p.m. The 41-year-old aggressor had multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he later died. Investigators found multiple empty liquor bottles in the aggressor's vehicle. Witnesses also shared photos with authorities in which the aggressor can be clearly seen pointing the rifle through the passenger side car window at the man

Authorities also recovered the Tikka rifle used by the aggressor, unloaded and with the trigger locked. Kenton County Commonwealth's Attorney Rob Sanders says the shooting was justified and his office is not pursuing charges in the incident against the man. Sanders also said that "There was no way for the man to know the rifle being stuck in his face was inoperable," and that his use of deadly force against the aggressor was not unreasonable or unlawful. Wild__: A resident of a home in Dothan, Ala., defended himself and his property when an intruder forced his way into the residence on Oct. 11, 2020.

The incident occurred around 2:00 a.m. that Sunday morning when the burglar parked his vehicle 90 to 100 feet from the home, then approached it armed with a handgun. The burglar then forced his way into the home. Once inside, the burglar was confronted by a man residing at the home who was also armed.

The resident then shot at the intruder multiple times, striking and wounding the would-be burglar. The Houston County Sheriff's Office were called immediately after the exchange and arrived at the scene shortly after. The burglar was transported to a local medical center, where he died of his wounds two days later.

Authorities said that no charges would be filed in the case against the resident, because the intruder had forced their way into the home. It was also stated that the motive for the burglary is unclear, though the resident and intruder apparently knew each other. The 34-year-old intruder had previously been arrested more than 20 times prior to the incident and was on federal probation at the time of the break-in. No one else in the home was injured during the incident. (wtvy.com, Dothan, Ala., 10/14/2020)

The son and mother were awakened by the loud sounds of banging coming from the front door of their home. The son quickly grabbed his handgun and went to the front door to investigate the noise. When he got to the front door, the son found that the door frame was damaged and a man was forcing his way in.

The son confronted the intruder and told him to get on his knees. The man did not comply with the warning, threatened the son and lunged at him in the entryway. In response, the son discharged a single round at the attacking intruder, striking him in the chest. The mother called police around 2:45 a.m. to report the break-in and that her son shot the intruder.

When Mesa County sheriff's deputies arrived at the home, they found the intruder, a 23-year-old, dead from the shot to his chest. The son said that he felt that he had no other option but to shoot the intruder when he lunged. Authorities found no evidence to contradict the resident's story. Further investigation found that the intruder was highly intoxicated at the time of the incident, with a blood alcohol content of 0.221 reported by the coroner's office.

The 21st District Attorney's Office declined to press any charges against the son for shooting the intruder. The Chief Deputy District Attorney of the 21st Judicial District cited the Colorado "Make My Day" law in explaining why no charges were filed against the son. This law states that a person is justified in using deadly force against another when that person makes an unlawful entry into their home and there is reason to believe that the intruder intends to harm the occupant or their property, shielding the occupant from prosecution if that criteria is met. The incident happened during at service at the church in White Settlement on Dec. 29, 2019. It started when a suspicious looking-man dressed in a long coat with a fake wig walked into the church.

Jack Wilson noticed the suspicious individual and notified security of the man, who sat at the back of the church with 260 others inside. Wilson is a firearms instructor and was armed at the time. He and two other security guards moved to sit near the suspicious man.

After a while, the suspicious man got up and pulled a shotgun out from under his coat. One of the security officers drew his handgun, but missed and was shot by the armed attacker, who then turned and shot another man before beginning to turn his attention and shotgun to the crowd.

At this point, Wilson drew his handgun and fired a single shot, subduing the armed man who died of his wound. Mr. Wilson's fast action prevented anyone else inside the church from being injured.

A prosecutor with Tarrant County district attorney's office said that Texas law allows a person to use deadly force to protect others when someone is placing them at risk of serious injury or death. Tex. Gov. Abbott awarded Mr. Wilson with the Governor's Medal of Courage for his actions, which is the highest civilian honor in the state. (easttexasmatters.com, Forth Worth, Tex., 09/29/2020)
