Dream or hallucination?

HeyItsMia
HeyItsMia: I was heading to bed around 2-3 am, and i've always been afraid of the dark because of the scary movies I watch, don't judge me i'm a wimp when it comes to darkness. So I always turn off the light run to my bed and pull my blankets as far up as I can, and one time after I did this, after like 2 minutes, I felt like I saw a shadow moving back and forth and heard the floor makes sounds like creakk.. This happened for like 5 minutes straight, I felt like I was wide awake and just staring at the movements, and the shadow that was by my bedside just walking I was freaking out, I wanted to cry lol. idk how to explain it, is this a hallucination or was I dreaming, its weird I remember it so vividly. AHHH

junyabee
junyabee: In that netherland between being consciously awake and dreams, much like and even more when you've been awake past physical fatigue, you found yourself the subject and audience of your subconscious' free associations (or conduited communications).
--5/8/21--
Those free associations and 'conduited communications' are rabbit-hole portal extension-playgrounds for your consciousness' edification of other dimensional possibilities

chronology
chronology: One time many years ago I was asleep in my bed when I was woken by what felt like large bony hands shaking me violently until I woke up. As I woke the shaking stopped. I just thought it was a dream and forgot all about it. But over the years it sunk in it could not have been a dream as my shoulder muscles and chest muscles were completely relaxed as I was shaken about to and fro. Another time in the same room I heard a voice saying loudly 'I am talking to you, you f*cking b*stard' loud enough to wake me up. Again I dismissed that as just some 'half awake half asleep' perception. But over the years again, am not so sure it was.

Stanky Iguana
Stanky Iguana: Coulda been a shadow person. They tend to observe people. Now some shadow figures are malicious and feed of those who are sickly. The ones that feed off people tend to use the name Michael as their moniker. Weird mfs. I know a few people who've encountered them.

chronology: stanky. I believe I have seen Shadow People, again a long time ago, and they look nothing like actual living people. They just look like shadows. But there is no one around to make those shadows.

lummox: Hiya Mia, your's sounds like the sort of thing the mind throws up as one passes through the veil into dreamland (much as Junyabee was saying) auditory and visual illusions abound there. Once my big sis woke the whole household with her screaming, she felt somebody had touched one of her feet, turned out to be her other foot, which had fallen asleep, lol 👣

wayne elliott: When I was a kid I believed I saw a monkey come up through the floor in a glass capsule about the size of a chair. I hid under the blanket in bed holding my breath waiting for him to pull the blankets away. It was so real I absolutely believed it happened for years.

Anton_Gladney
Anton_Gladney: wow that does sound pretty trippy. Upon reading this, it reminded me of something that was discussed in my Abnormal Psychology class in college. (dusting off my abnormal psych text book lol). Apparently there is a sleep/psychological phenomenon called "hypnagogic hallucinations." Basically it's a characteristic of narcolepsy where the individual has vivid and often terrifying experiences that beginning at the start of sleep and are said to be unbelievably realistic because they include not only visual aspects (you mentioned seeing shadows) but also touch, hearing (you mentioned the floor creaking) and even sensation of body movement. Sometimes, apparently, the vivid illusions include feeling being caught on fire or flying through the air (talk about scary lol). Now I am not saying this is necessarily applicable to your case or incident, but to me it's reminiscent of what was discussed in that class. I have a friend who suffers from sleep paralysis and has mentioned similar things. Anyways, that's just my 2cents and I so can relate to when I was younger running run to turn off lights and then running to my bed too. lol Hope shades some light to what you experience.

duncan124:
Injuries can sometimes cause "dreams" like Too describes. I had a neck injury which I think included torn neck muscles and the doctors warned me I was going to have bad dreams when I fell asleep. And I did. Because I was in a hospital I was waking up and going back to sleep a lot so the nightmares got quite bad.

Perhaps you are slightly straining yourself when you watch movies in the dark late at night and if you left a light on you would be better off?

smaccaroni: Has anyone ever woken up in the middle of the night and had the weird sensation of their eyes like rolling back and forth? The only way I could stop them was to focus on one object in the room. This was maybe a year ago. nothing since. HeyisMia, I have to agree, when i was much younger( like 10 to 12) when frightened I would run and pull covers way o up over my head.
Like covers are going to protect me..LOL
