iowagent1956: As a religion, I don't know enough to voice an objective opinion. I detest those who corrupt any religion, Islam, Christianity, Jehovah witness, for their own selfish, evil purposes. Religion should serve to bring us closer to God, whatever religion one chooses. Murder and destroying in the name of religion does the opposite.

keithmae: I lived in Arabia for ten years......and left because of the horrible way the Islamic faith isu practiced there......Saudi's, on the whole but not all, don't really live a beautiful religion but practice a basturdation of the religion, such as the motowa or religious police that were everywheatre when I was there....think its changed and I think the new King has his head screwed on well and is trying to make changes and get that backward country into the 21st century...I WISH HIM LUCK...... I have many friends who are NOT saudi's and ARE Muslims and are wonderful, tho I am a Buddhist and we get along with just about everybody, but we all have our prejudices but in that backward country racism, marginalization of women, no religious,,intellectual, political, economic or individual freedoms exist......really a sad, sad place where everybody looks to both sides and back as they go forth dealing with all the middle ages mentality that exists and intollerance on EVERY LEVEL OF LIFE.....so you see, what is practiced IS NOt THE MUSLIM FAITH at all but a sorry excuse....too bad, there are some good people there and they DESERVE BETTER and hope for large improvements in the future, but I wouldn't bet the farm on it. just some thoughts.....PS I am a PH.D professional and considered my time there 'charity' worki..in an undeveloped and backward thinking country....I WISH THEM ALL THE BEST....THEY DESERVE MUCH BETTER

chronology
chronology: United States and European Authorities say Islamic people should be shown the same respect and courtesy as any other religion. So personally I just think the same of Islam as any other religion. Muslims I have met have been friendly enough, better educated than the avarage white person, and living to a higher moral calling than most white people, but you can only commend them for that.

Zanjan: Anyone who disses any religion has an agenda to push people away from whatever religion isn't their own or, from religion altogether. As such, they invent and spread contemptuous propaganda, full of lies. Those who believe them are irresponsible and unjust.

Zanjan: The Quran is elegant, deep, and majestic; it's a tremendous intellectual advance over all previous sacred Books and anything anyone wrote before it. One should be amazed that a nomadic desert people had the mentality to recognize it and understand.

Most importantly, it's not corrupted. While it gives more privileges to women than any had previously, it also asks more in terms of devotion from followers. It's not for the weak of heart.

Only the Quran is Islam but not many today follow its guidance as delivered. Exactly the same as all previous religions, it started out pristine and it's practice was beautiful, with Muslims becoming renowned for peacemaking, upright conduct, and faithfulness.

Islam doesn't permit proselytizing and Muslims still don't. So, to say Islam took the world by compulsion of religion is nonsense. Like the early Jews, they won all their battles by keeping the Covenant of God.

When followers added their own perspectives, rules and laws to its practice, that began its split into numerous denominations. While Muhammad united all the tribes of Arabia in His own time, followers who came after had a problem understanding unity to this very day.

Nevertheless, Muhammad raised up a great and mighty civilization - that wouldn't have been possible without God's approval. Since Muhammad claimed to be a Divine Revelator, neither He or Islam would have endured without God's favour. Whomever God favours, we should also. I respect God's choices.

The word "Islam" means "submission to God", not peace. If one submits to the Will of God, He will bestow on them numerous spiritual gifts and sucess; should they demonstrate constancy in that submission, they will acquire all the spiritual virtues. Rare is the true Muslim today.

Islam today is steeped in local tribal culture - I don't fit into that way of life but others are quite comfortable with it. There are denominations of Islam that are much more liberal with followers easily integrating into modern society.

Zanjan: Yeah, so what? Mecca was where He was born, where his tribe lived. Medina was the city He eventually came to govern as a statesman, by the inhabitants' choice. He returned to Mecca because it was a place of holy pilgrimage - the Meccans had held it hostage so pilgrims couldn't enter. He straightened them out, then all was fine.

Zanjan: His arms weren't broken, if that's what you mean. Not everyone in Arabia was a nomad (mobile tent-dweller); many just traveled frequently over the trade routes. Most countries had only two cities.
