If you want my advice, wipe that bastard operating system from your computer and install a version of good ol' Windows 7.

calybonos: I can't open windows at all.

Well, actually I can, but whenever I do, the flies come in through the holes in my screen.

Someone said something about a screen saver, and I tried that, but the duct tape keeps coming off when it rains.

harlett: what kind of problems are you speaking of....i have no problem other then,my dell no longer restarts, message up in the left hand corner says reboot fails ______ ...when it gets stuck,so i haveta pull the plug...

my satellite service has micro-soft updating over night during their free data hours... so i wake up to a frozen restart screen... other wise if i am in front of the computer i say i'll restart when i am damn good and ready and shut down for a brief moment....

if i had a negative.....a few of my very favorite casual games for pc.. no longer full screen are now un enjoyable there are many games not made compatible with windows 10 yet or maybe won't ever be made compatible.

the moment you could turn back to which ever windows version you had has now passed for over a month or two...

my satellite service wrote a article at how micro-soft is slowly butt surely downloading windows 10 into every compatible with it computer like it or not....

Geoff: I am having no more troubles with Windows 10 than with 8.

There are some issues with updates being forcibly installed before they're ready, but that's not insurmountable. The auto-update facility does mean that it can be a little slower to start up than older versions, but again this isn't all that big an issue.

Aside from that, it's just 'getting used to it'.

All that being said, I suppose I am what most people would consider to be a power-user, so I manually configure the networking options - and from what I have heard that is the reason that I don't have any problems in that regard.

So... I quite like Windows 10.

Geoff: And regarding games - I happily play games built for Windows 3 or DOS 6.55 on my Windows 10 PC.

harlett: my first computer screen was a 19 inch when games played full screen it was like being on the game board....which is even better with this 21 inch screen... some games have a border because they don't stretch to fit a 21..which is okay....

what i;m complaining about is how my older much adored games look like they'd fit on a phone and just aren't the same visually

i'd ask what the heck DOS6'55 is or windows 3 for that matter my experience is with xp...8.1 and now 10..& my head spins enough as is these days..and i'm sure any explanation just me....personally..

Geoff: DOS was the Disk Operating System interface used by PCs before Windows became popular.

Both DOS and Windows 3 became obsolete in 1995 when Windows 95 was released.

So, I can still play games over 20 years old on my current PC.

Corwin: I have a friend (who is far more computer savvy than I am) who tells me that anybody who uses Windows is a fool. He recommends Linux, and says he's never had issues... ever.

I don't know anything about Linux... but after getting my data bill today, and seeing an extra $100 of usage last month for gigabytes of Windows updates I never agreed to, I'm thinking of looking into it.

I'm using Windows 8 (not by choice), but I'm worried that I'm going to start my computer one morning and find a Windows 10 OS running, whether I wanted it or not.
And I've heard that Windows 10 does this sort of crap to you all the time... like massive updates every F#$KING day.
Out here in the boonies we don't have "unlimited" data plans available... I pay for what I use... and there's NO DAMN WAY I'm going to pay 3 times as much a month in data just for the pleasure of using an operating system that I didn't want in the first place.

I'll buy a Mac if it comes to that... which in my line of work is what I'm SUPPOSED to be using anyway.

Geoff: I don't know about 'supposed'; there's nothing you can do on a Mac that you can't do on a PC - Macs even use Intel processors now.

You can tell Windows that you're on a Metered internet connection and it /should/ stop downloading updates automatically.

Corwin: Well, I know one thing that you can't do on a PC that you can do on a Mac -- and that's use the high-end professional creative software suites that are ONLY made for Mac and don't offer a PC version.
Companies like Lucasfilm, Industrial Light and Magic, and Pixar aren't using PC technology.

Now, that's not really an issue for me at the present time, as I can't afford that kind of software anyway, even if I did have the hardware... but if I ever did want to go that route I'd have to Mac-up and pay the iPiper.

My main point was that I wouldn't have to use Windows... and if Bill Gates is going to continue being an ever bigger jerk, then there ARE alternatives.

Geoff: For that money, you could build a decent spec machine, dual boot it for Mac OS and then use another OS for real work

Corwin: Okay... I'm in...
... I'll put up the cash, YOU c'mon over and build one of these "super computers" for me, and download multiple operating systems for me... and show me how to use them as well...
... no problem... I'm sure I'll be really happy then.

FFS Geoff... I love you, bro... but sometimes you really ARE a dick.

Dennae: Windows saying they aren't going to support this or that version anymore just means they are not going to do anymore updates for it.

They stopped support for XP a while ago and I'm still using it on one of my machines and only updated another because the software I wanted to run wasn't made for XP.

Rule of Thumb - If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Corwin: Bill Gates designed Windows 10 to send undetectable tachyon waves into your brain, to turn you into a willing slave when the Reptilian space-alien overlords come to conquer the planet.

My best advice, if you insist on upgrading to Windows 10, is to be sure to wear your tin-foil hat.

Geoff: The problem with running outdated software is that it can become compromised - no security updates means that any exploits discovered for it won't be patched.
