While some guardsmen still insist they were shot af during a rowdy protest at Kent State in 1970, most people who read of the incident consider it was a car backfire or similar loud bang that the guardsmen mistook for being shot at.

A United State's Government Inquiry into the incident was critical of everyone involved in the clashes at the university. 'All side's in the protests could have acted more responsibly' was the conclusion of the Government Report.

chronology: Soccer Protest's in England the last sparks of Lady Thatcher's legacy?

Soccer has always been a working sport. Up to the end of the 1970s working class men with flat caps and rain coats were the most common fans at soccer Games. Tribal like loyalty to their clubs and tribal hatred of rival clubs was their way of life.
But the Shock Doctrine days of the 1980s turned Britain's working class into a virtually permanently unemployed group, and for those with jobs wages, already the lowest in Europe stagnated permanently.
Soccer had lost it's customer base, permanently. But as the 1990s unfolded, global TV began to offer exciting business opportunities for businesses who could provide club's for the TV Audiences and their advertising companies. But the Clubs had to attract a new customer base to stage games. Ticket prices rose to the point of being out of reach of traditional fans, and the main soccer club's became global brand's with player's known to hundreds of millions of people around the world with cable TV. David Beckham was said to have been known in every major City in China.

But for the old style of fans , standing on wet football ground steps and singing old time songs was a nostalgic memory. When British soccer recently organised a new playing league, more compatible with modern media requirements it was the last straw for many soccer old time supporters. This weekend they invaded the pitch at one club protesting the changes in a protest that became a brawl with police.

The soccer Clubs owner's today insist you cannot live in the past and every business has to adapt to the new economic environment. But old fashioned fan's still have memories of the old days of bus rides to away game's and gangs of fellow fans gathering to for the match. Sitting at home holding a TV remote control with a few cool Beers is just not the same for the older soccer fan's.

Officer Chauvin has lost his job, his pension, his home, his freedom, everything. All because George had a heart attack during one of his street routines.

chronology: Bobby Sands dies this date in 1981.

Mr Sands had engaged in a Hunger Strike to win better conditions in his prison. His Hunger Strike is seen by many students of the Troubles Era in Northern Ireland as a turning point where the British Government lost credibility with many people around the world. People of Irish Heritage banded together to demonstrate and protest Mr Sands being allowed to die.
But for the Thatcher Government the real blow to the credibility of Great Britain in the Irish dispute was the election of Mr Sands by a huge majority in a election that was held during his protest Hunger Strike.

Great Britain had managed to project an image of'Referee' in the Trouble's in Ireland. But the refusal to compromise with Mr Sands had created a image of London as a'player' in the violence in Ireland, not a impartial referee.

Local police believe that some kind of hoax was being played on the teen-agers. But over 40 year's on, the witnesses insist that they were not hoaxed, they say they saw something very out of the normal.

chronology: Sorry Blackie, but still don't agree. His Honour the judge did make sure that Mr Chauvin received a fair trial, but the hysteria whipped up by the media endured that people had already taken moulded viewpoint on the death of George. As I keep saying I don't hate George at all. But he does come over as a Drama Queen and a person who ridiculed the police. Sadly he had a heart attack while he was joking about and people were unable to tell if it was real or just George goofing about.

Again it was George Floyd who created the circumstances of restraint being needed during his arrest, it was George Floyd who protracted the time of his restraint, it was George Floyd who confused the Police Officer about whether he really was in distress by his playing at being upset. Whether you blame his life of drug abuse for his medical crisis depends on which doctor you listen to. Some say George was destined for heart failure with or without drugs.

Ask most Americans today what they consider the most spectacular news images ever and they will most likely say the Plane's striking the WTC on 911.
But for year's after the Hindenburg explosion near New York City, millions of Americans were still stunned by the amazing explosion of the Hindenburg.

Coincidentally, Jewish folks found themselves being blamed for the catastrophic fire that destroyed the Great Airship, just as they are blamed for 911 by some people.
The truth is the cause of the fire is still disputed. Most engineers consider static electricity the most likely trigger for the fire.

chronology: This date in 1915 Lusitania is torpedoed off the Coast of Ireland killing 1200 passengers, including over a hundred Americans.

There has always been conspiracy theories insisting that Sir Winston Churchill was the 'hidden hand' behind the sinking of the huge passenger ship. Sir Winston is accused of arranging for the death's of Americans to bring America into the war against Germany.

There is no proof at all that Sir Winston did any such thing. The circumstances of Lusitanias sinking are curious, but can be explained by the fact that a submarine battle was in progress in the area of sea she was sailing through. Some have pointed out that unlike in past crossings from New York City, the ship had no Royal Navy Escort Ships. She was also not warned of the U-boat wolf packs she was heading towards. But the explanation for the lack of security is that the Royal Navy was busy chasing U Boats, and Lusitania was just one ship amongst hundreds at the time.

The U Boat that sank Lusitania was fully aware it was a passenger liner, and the captain would have known there were American's on board. So unless people can prove the Captain was working for Sir Winston, the responsibility was entirely the Captain's for the loss of American lives.

After the tragedy American Movie Theatre goers were shocked to see survivor's of the ship swimming desperately for their lives. Well not really, the supposed film of the survivors was filmed on a lake near London by Government propaganda crews, and then rushed to America to bolster the shock effect of the tragedy.

The sinking of the liner did damage German support in the United States at the time. Some also saw it as the first shots fired between Washington DC and Berlin in the coming showdown of which country would replace Great Britain as the master of the Atlantic. But it was a public relations disaster for Germany if that was the case. 'They threw the first punch' was the American position in WW1.

chronology: Mr Weisbach made the news.

By curious coincidence, Mr Weisbach, a German Naval Officer was at the centre of much of the news in 1916 that created Headlines in American Newspapers.

He was the Officer on Watch when the Lusitania was sunk by his U Boat, a year later he was the Captain of U19 when he secretly delivered Roger Casement the controversial British Foreign Office Official, to the shore's of Ireland to spearhead the Rebellion against Great Britain.

Mr Weisbach probably had no Idea he was instrumental in creating such headline news across America.

Mr Weisbach lived out his days peacefully in Hamburg Germany after the war. Mr Casement was hanged for High Treason after the failed Irish revolt.

chronology: China head's for the Moon.

China and Russia have begun plans for a joint Space Station on the Moon. China is stressing both openess and cooperation in it's plan's for the permanent facility on the Moon.

Details are still being considered regarding the Base. But both China and Russia are determined to construct the first Moon Landing base that can be reused by returning Astronauts.
Eventually China hope's to have a constantly manned Space Station on the moon.

The USA is also planning a return to the moon in the next few years. American Space Officials are determined that after achieving the first man on the moon, America will send the first woman to the moon. The American female Astronaut is set to land on the moon in around 4 year's.

The USA more or less lost interest in Luna exploration after the Apollo successful missions. The entire Moon program was seen by most Americans as too cumbersome and time consuming with nothing to show for the expense or effort. But business observers observed that American tax payers benefited to the tune of 10 dollars for every 1 dollar invested in Space research in spin off products.
Despite their success and victory in Space, NASA staff may be reflecting that both Russia and China have set themselves a huge workload in the coming years. NASA is also said to see AI and Robot's as the most practical Space crew's of the future.

chronology: Could Woodrow Wilson have saved Roger Casement from execution?

For America, Roger Casement was a enigmatic figure. Admired in Washington DC circles for his Humanitarian work in Africa and Latin America, and his social acceptance in upper class London circle's, Casement became a major Diplomatic problem Washington DC was to find unsolvable.

After leaving his career as a British Diplomat, Casement traveled to New York City just following the outbreak of the WW1. There he raided money for Irish Nationalist causes and met with German Government Agent's about securing help from Germany for Ireland's independence struggle. This activity alone would have given Officials in Washington DC a major headache. Tho not an Allie of Britain, nor obligated to assist British Security Services, Washington was none the less keen to stay out of the European dispute. German Agent's meeting with Irish Nationalists in New York City was a hot potato for Federal Agent's.

But when Mr Casement was sentenced to death, his friends in Washington DC appealed to President Wilson to request a prison sentence from London for Casement in place of a hangman's noose.

Why were American's even concerned about Mr Casement? Well 'Birds of a feather flock together' as the saying goes. Humanitarian people with political connections in Washington DC were his friends. Also, American's saw Casement as a Irish Patriot, not a traitor to Britain.
So efforts were made to urge President Wilson to request mercy for Mr Casement. Even Lawmakers in Congress voted to support a request for mercy for Mr Casement.

But the request was never sent. Mr Wilson explained later 'someone forgot to send the request to London' .

At first most Left Wing leader's in Europe supported Ulreke in her dramatic escape with Baarder. But when the gang she joined began murdering German Police Officer's, and killing American Servicemen in terrorist bombings, the Left Wing establishment distanced itself from her completely. Killing German Police Officer's, and murdering American soldiers will do nothing to change United States Government foreign policy, they stated.
West German police authorities made every effort to resolve the crisis by appealing to Ulreke to hand herself in end the death's of innocent German Officials. But she refused all offer's of safe arrest.

She committed suicide in prison after being found guilty of murder and terrorism. Andraus Baarder committed suicide on the same day.

chronology: Lost in Maine.

When most people think of vast open spaces in America they think of Oregon, or maybe New Mexico. But rarely do they think of Maine.

But Avaition Buffs are for the most part convinced that in 1927 two French Flying Adventures flew into the State without anyone ever seeing or hearing them. Somewhere out there in the vast Pine forest's, their crashed aircraft lies to this day along with their human remains.

The two French Aviator's had been attempting to fly the Atlantic none stop from Paris. But after flying over Ireland en route America they were never seen again. There was a sighting of a Aircraft in Newfoundland that could have been the brave Frenchmen, but it seems likely they flew on and crashed in the vast empty forests of Maine.

Most likely only the engine is still out there somewhere today. But most U.S. Parks Service Ranger's would observe that the chance of finding the single engine amongst the millions of trees is just about zero.

But hey wirreclubbers. Should you ever visit the beautiful State and trek it's practically never visited place's sometime you may just stumble over a engine fallen from the sky.

chronology: Well now James knows, one way or the other.

In case you missed the news wireclubers, James Randi died last October. Randi, he used only his name in public, was the most prominent of all sceptics. He even out shon Christopher Hitchens and others in his public debunking of what he called supernatural nonsense. His most famous expose in America was the outing of a major evangelist who was actually using radio q cards to speak out information from visitors to his evangelist shows. He also outed dozens of psychics and people claiming supernatural powers. All of this 'Front line Trench' sceptic work made him more famous as a debunker than as a magician.

But he had his own critics. He was accused of only exposing easy targets he could demonstrate were hoaxing, and using them to dismiss the entire phenomenon of the Occult. His world famous 1.000.000. Dollar Prize offered to anyone who could demonstrate supernatural powers was also a point of dispute for many psychics. As one psychic said 'I would never sign up for his test. I have read the paper work he demands people sign and frankly I don't see how any one with any self respect could sign that paperwork.'.

But even Randi could never avoid the strange world of coincidence. One time giving a talk on Magic and Illusion he once said' using this method you can even make a building disappear ' he then blanched and looked shaken as the picture he clicked onto for his talk turned out to be the World Trade Center in New York City. The famous Janitor at the WTC on the day of September 11th was Willie Rodriguez, his former stage hand for his magic act. 'I do beg your pardon sincerely, I have no idea how that picture got mixed up in there' said Randi.
