Therapists seem to react with horror (going by some articles I've read) and disgust and that's understandable but also not very helpful.
We need better support for this kind of disorder if we ever want to 'solve' the problem

OCD_OCD: My first question would be this: How many predators actually try to seek help? My second question is: When they do seek help, how many times is it because they've been caught and are trying to lighten their sentence and how many times is their "therapy" court-mandated?

This guy certainly didn't try to seek help. He wasn't "insane" when he was stalking and abducting them, nor while he held them prisoner and abused them. The guy doesn't have a chance of making an insanity defense. He's straight-out evil.

Aura: idk OCD, did you read about the letter dated to 2004? Kind of reads like a suicide note, says he's a sexual predator and to leave his money to his victims after he dies. That doesn't excuse anything. But part of me feels like if there had been better support for people like this, the girls nightmare could have been ended almost a decade ago.
Support doesn't mean excuses, forgiveness or agreeing. But they are still human beings and no human being actually sees themselves as evil, no matter what they do, and they don't really want others to see them as evil either. There is shame there, even if that shame doesn't keep them from doing what they do.

It's just a very hard problem.
