Thread Crapping. (Page 4) Miss Eleven: Actually, no, it is *not* "off topic because we all go off topic". Off Topic is a category for any thread topics that do not clearly fall within any of the other pre-existing categories such as Books, Movies, Politics, etc. calybonos: Then why are there currently (and usually) 3 music threads here and not in the Music forum 2 word game threads here and not in the Forum Game forum 1 food thread here and not in the Food forum Not to mention a few others that could (should?) be in the religion, political forums, etc. No need to answer that,as it makes no difference to me,but it seems that most all of the thread topics here in the Off Topic forum could easily be said to 'belong' in their respective categories. So I agree that threads posted in the Off Topic forum should be expected to wander as aimlessly in content as they do in their placement. If a poster expects a strict adherence to it's subject matter, then it should naturally follow that it be posted in it's proper category. Personally,I think the spontaneity of a no rules forum ('no rules' at least in this respect) is needed, and from several years experience here........I would say it is wanted by many. Not that anyone cares about the opinions of a pig with ADHD,but thats my slop on the matter. (Edited by calybonos) Miss Eleven: I was simply clarifying what the Off Topic category is meant for ....whether it is used for it's intended purpose or not is a whole other "topic" While I think the idea regarding thread-crapping should be respected, I don't know that it needs to be taken quite so seriously. The spontaneity and overall freedom within the forums isn't going anywhere. "So I agree that threads posted in the Off Topic forum should be expected to wander as aimlessly in content as they do in their placement." -- How do you figure? Just because a particular topic may not fit within one of listed categories does not mean it is not worthy of a respectful discussion that stays on topic. "If a poster expects a strict adherence to it's subject matter, then it should naturally follow that it be posted in it's proper category." -- I agree. RUBY: I posted that every category should go under right topic months back nobody followed it all attacked me for it so don't say i didn't mention it cause i did calybonos: How do I figure? As I said,if a poster wanders aimlessly in their thread placement, then they should also expect that the general public can,and quite possibly will be as random as the OP in their comments. duncan124: So Rod can't understand what is a negative statement. And certain chararters will keep ranting at you even if they had no part in the conversation untill he delets your post. calybonos: All of this is neither here nor there in respect to this threads topic anyway. This wasn't a thread about ideas,or suggestions, but as a warning to those who enter threads to disrupt a conversation with the sole intent of causing trouble. We all know the difference between someone being random and someone looking for an e-fight. duncan124: The question was, which one charater could n't cope with so she attacked me, why is one character on wire allowed by to post abuse at other members on otherwise going right threads ? Miss Eleven: I agree, caly. I would just add that not all Off Topic threads are misplaced (such as this one). "We all know the difference between someone being random and someone looking for an e-fight. " duncan124: Rod said he wants to stop 'Thread crapping' and we are saying 'then why haven't you done it?' That is what the thread is about because that is what it says at the top of the page. If you are insinuating that I am e fighting or that isn't what these posts are about then you should come out and say it. Saying there is a silent majority that supports thread crappers is 'misplaced' harlett anathema: <------just doesn't get the call out for a r rated forum when all of forums are r rated... were being asked too knock off the verbal social battering of others,& intruding upon threads we have no interest in contributing too other than too jeer.... jeering & sneering doesn't equal offering a difference of opinion.... Fruitbat1919: I must admit to being slightly disappointed by the responses to this thread, with reference mainly towards what Off Topic is and probably will become. While I have tried to remain optimistic and proactive towards the Forums in general, I have a bad feeling that we are witnessing the initial death throws of Off Topic......O well......back to other activities............. Robot Seb: I think most people post in Off-Topic no matter if there is a section for it or not simply because Off-Topic is the most known and busiest section. It's really ok to post them here or in the sections related to the topic. The initial post though just asks that any replies made to a thread be respectful of the topic its about and not to post any replies that would go against the topic in order to prevent disputes and conflict. for you all! calybonos: To crap, or not to crap: that is the question: Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer The slings and arrows of outrageous drivel, Or to drop a duce against a sea of troubles, And by opposing end them? To ban: to suspend; No more; and by a ban to say we end The heart-ache and the thousand natural shocks That Wire is heir to, 'tis a consummation Devoutly to be wish'd. To ban, to suspend; To crap: perchance to be spanked: ay, there's the rub. jink88: No offense to Rod but I find the name "thread Crapping" hilarious always makes me laugh...I know what he means but just can't help myself from lmao | Off Topic Chat Room Similar Conversations |
