This is said to be based on safety reason (so they dont blow up the house) however, people with open fire places, an addiction to candles or gas stoves or heaters are not put under the same restrictions. The weird thing about this is that most of the older type people that smoke actually became addicted when the were fighting in WW1, WW11, and Vietnam wars (not sure about Korean war) and had as part of their rations 5 cigarettes a day assigned to them.  OCD_OCD: If there is a restaurant or a bar that allows smokers and I don't want to go there, I can walk away. I will patronize places that don't. But to force the owner of an establishment, who has put their time, their money and their future economic profit on the line to ban a lawful activity is wrong. Flat out wrong. At first I thought this was a personals site you were referring to Dennae and in that case I can see why someone would want to date people who are non-smokers, but then I realized it is a job ad and, in that case, I do believe it is discrimination. Like Masky said, smoking is legal. Comrade_: True, so is alcohol, but when something affects the workplace/work environment then its up to the employer. Charliebug: Alcohol inhibits your cognitive abilities to function on a job, smoking does not. I understand there are smokers who help themselves to extra breaks but in most places I have worked you take your designated breaks and that is it- nothing more. I am not aware of any workplaces in the first world that allow smoking inside. OCD_OCD: You can't legislate good sense. Good sense and common decency should keep parents from smoking around their children, the sick and the elderly. Other than fearing getting caught for possession, pot smokers seem to be much less concerned. Nobody cares if I'm choking to death at a concert while the smoke drifts up between their legs and up my nose. Comrade_: Second -hand weed smoking? eh weed smoking isn't as cigarettes. A weed-smoker can do his thing at home not every 15 minutes. Smoking is a habit, a lifestyle, yes it is legal and people have that right but if it is affecting others (as public places, it is band) so too with work.
