Olympics opening ceremony (Page 2)

Sarcastic Dots: "I love that somehow I can be fascinated about sports that I actually don't give a shit about."

Best part of the coverage. In the UK, the BBC have 24 Olympic channels. If I get a bit bored with one sport, I just channel hop to find another.

Stewart75: London Olympics not a success for Australia........... finishing 9th or 10th this time around is not good enough.............. certainly not up to usual standard/expectancy......

Far too many Silvers.......... not enough Golds......................

Sarcastic Dots: This has been a weird Olympics. Russia has more medals than Britain, but the majority of them are in bronze, so they fall bellow Britain on the medal table.

Stewart75: Britain............. 4 nations.............

Stewart was born in Leeds, England............... though do I give rats about Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland....?................... no, Stewart does not...............

England should compete as England................. none of the British 4 country/nation crap.............

Sarcastic Dots: This isn't an unusual occurrence. Hong Kong competes independently of China too. Besides, on the world stage, the UK is represented by Westminster and recognised as the UK by the United Nations, so it's not a special designation we handed ourselves to win more medals at the Olympics lol.

If it's such a big issue, just watch the commonwealth games, where England competes as a separate team.

Stewart75: It's not just the Olympics................. GB do it in other tournaments/sporting comps............ seemingly to give the other 3 nations some sort of credibility....... as they are nothing on their own.............

Though do England do it in Soccer/Football........... Cricket etc.... no they don't......... so why do it in the Olympics...?.................

duncan124:
It was a joke, the people doing it were arrested. Hong Kong was brought from the Chinese in the 1980s and it is a part of Britain and if you were from the ministry and went there and denied it was part of Britain you could be arrested as a number of idiots have been.

Sarcastic Dots: Also, the English cricket team is actually the England and Wales cricket team... It is run by the England and Wales cricket board. In rugby union, nations compete independently, but they also have the British and Irish Lions. Football is a unique case, if anything.

Edit: I also forgot. In Rugby League they compete is Great Britain.

Stewart75: I've never once seen the English cricket team named England-Wales..............

In Rugby, yes they do compete independently............. which is how it should be...........

And Ireland is Southern Ireland (Irish)............. not Northern Ireland........ so once again England are calling in another nation.............. which now makes it England plus 4 others......... yes...?.........

Sarcastic Dots: It was nice. I think everyone in existence knows my favourite band is Queen and, yeah, Jessie J butchered that song, but it was nice to see Freddie Mercury beamed out on those giant screens.

•Highlight of the Games
Mo Farah winning the double gold.

•Lowpoint of the Games
I was tempted to say the badminton players trying to lose, but I have to go with the blatantly obvious match fixing in one of the boxing games.

•Athlete(s) of the Games
Phelps, obviously.

•Biggest Villian of the Games
The judges/ref.

•Funniest Moment of the Games
Boris Johnson, mayor of London, getting caught on a zip wire.

•Sport you've most enjoyed watching
Handball, baby; and beach volleyball for obvious reasons.

Sarcastic Dots: Also, one of the better original songs in an Olympic ceremony. You may as well skip to 2:16, since it doesn't get going until then:

Sarcastic Dots: No, it's okay. I like editing my posts to remove spelling and grammatical errors, and it's not like I hid the fact that I edited them to include more information that neither subtracted or added to my overall point, it just solidified it. I'm not really one for these tit for tat posts that consist of nothing substantial; we have chat rooms for that. If I had stealthily edited my post rather than highlighting it, you might have a point, but I'm not hiding it. I mean, if it bugs you that much: fine. However, there is a reason why the edit button exists on here.

Of course, if you'd like to fight over trivial matters, I'm more than happy to oblige you in my pm box, but too many topics on here get straggled by babbling irrelevancies about the minutia of posts, rather than what the topic is actually about. I'd have assumed that a topic about the Olympics would be a bit more jovial and free from the usual bickering, and I hope I'm correct in that belief.
