Hey, Check Out The Ponzi Scheme! StuckInTheSixties: Topic: Off Topic I wonder what sort of international laws this schmuck is breaking? StuckInTheSixties: A sign on their back, with an arrow pointing downward, and the caption: "Kick me here" Karma: I got in trouble for offering to return triple the number of flowers anyone gave to me. *Pansy Scheme* calybonos: I would think a red flag would go up for anyone when you read; "this pharse makes this program legal" At first I thought the word 'pharse' was just a typo of the word phrase, but then I began to think about it...given the circumstances, maybe they meant 'farce'? Karma: I was once investigated for promising to get you two cool '50's icons for every one you sent me. *Fonzie Scheme* DiIIy: That topic has been deleted now and ive never heard of Ponzi Scheme so googled it. I know it as a Pyramid Scheme. I had a boss that was is one of these things back in the 80s and tried to get me and fellow workers in on it. At 17 i could see it was BS. Needless to say my idiot boss lost money. StuckInTheSixties: It was a classic Ponzi/Pyramid scheme, Dilly. When I was in my twenties, a big one hit in California. My next-door neighbor entered it, invested something like fifty bucks, and a few weeks later, was able to bank nearly twenty thousand dollars. One of my roommates got excited by that, invested his fifty bucks, and never saw penny in return. That's how this classic style of the ruse works. It depends on word-of-mouth excitement from the winners in the beginning. But soon, it peters out, and the word-of-mouth of that causes the entire thing to collapse. There's other variations on the same theme. Some are incredibly destructive, such as this one: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernard_Madoff Hyenablood: I always feel bad for the elderly who get suckered in by someone who claims that they are their 'grandkid' or something. that they need money because of whatever reason. I hate it even more when the criminals attack the elderly right on the street or in their homes, pissed me right off. ~LoisLane~: ^^Just going to say that^^ A lot of the Seniors get taken for a ride cuz it does sound legit...and when you see you can actually (Pft) make money off it...Why not try it...There are sooo many different kinds of these scams and shames...Its disgusting how people are sooo willing to take advantage of other people.....especially the elderly.....sad (Edited by ~LoisLane~) StuckInTheSixties: I'm always baffled by the sad news stories we see showing how some person was victimized that way. It's always the same. In the beginning of the story, the victim says something like "It happened to me, it can happen to you too." And then they show how the ploy worked. Finally, at the end, they repeat: "It happened to me, it can happen to you." I always find myself saying out loud: "No, it wouldn't happen to me." I would IMMEDIATELY think - "Someone is asking for money ... ALARM! ALARM! ALARM!" Hyenablood: SITS I'm a few dollars short this week...mind lending a pal a few dollars till payday ? oh yeah I'm your grandkid from your mother's cousins side... | Off Topic Chat Room Similar Conversations |
