Or do you actually want to type something interesting for once? StuckInTheSixties: Azimuth_Predator says: "Oh dear! Welcome Mr War lover. Are you here to troll around? Or do you actually want to type something interesting for once?" Does anyone else see the blatant hypocrisy of his post? StuckInTheSixties: That's a good one. I've seen literally thousands of concerts. The best of the best was Pink Floyd in 1975, when they were at the zenith of their creative and performing capability. The full performance of DSOTM was the second set of that show. davidk14: . Good stuff sixties. DSOTM was during a historic time for me. Here's another one of the legendary groups...I just had a problem deciding which song to post... StuckInTheSixties: Not the Fillmore Auditorium, but Fillmore West. For my first show there, when I was in 11th grade, my friend Ned (the bass player in our crappy little band) and I cut school with a couple of girls, and did that thing where you tell your parents that you're spending the night at your friend's house, and he tells his that he's spending the night at your house, and you pray you don't get busted. We drove down to The City, and the girls wanted to score some weed. So we went to Golden Gate Park, and the girls got burned by a guy who was acting very paranoid and concerned about cops, etc. When they got back to the car and looked at what they'd purchased, it was oregano. (laughs) It was a Thursday night, and for $3, we saw: B.B King Buddy Guy and Junior Wells ... and this unknown group called The Allman Brothers Band. The instantly turned into our favorite band. Soon as I got a little money, I bought their first album, and I'd run around my high school, telling everyone about this amazing band called the Allman Brothers ... "The Osmond Brothers" ?!?!? Nooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!! The ALLMAN Brothers !!!!!!!!! Saw a number of shows at Fillmore West (including the longest show I ever saw, again with the Allman Bros and Hot Tuna) until it was closed in the summer of '71. I saw a fairly legendary show in Speedway Meadows in October (I think) of 1975 with Grateful Dead (one of the four shows they performed during their hiatus). Rolling Stone published a picture of it, and I could tell that the tiny speck seen perched on a tree branch was me. davidk14: . In 1967, I spent a week with...I was lucky enough to enjoy a week with....a number of friends and I were able to be in the presence for a week, day and night.... Janis Joplin and her band Big Brother and the Holding Company. An amazing week in my life. I went to a high school near the intersection of California and Divisadero. A rocks throw from the Avalon. An amazing time for music and for me. The Speedway was a regular hangout on the weekend for me. Good times. Pissed my parents off though. . Azimuth_Predator: Aretha Franklin is a true Legend! Her voice just makes me want to jump up and start moving. She is amazing, she is unique! She is.....The Queen of Soul! StuckInTheSixties: I was wondering if anyone was going to get around to her in this thread. david and I were talking about Fillmore West. One of the shows I DIDN'T go to was Aretha Franklin. Some friends were going to go see her, and beckoned me to go too. I declined. I knew she was really good, but I was more interested in other kinds of music, bands, psychedelic, stuff like that, so I passed on it. What an idiot! It turned out that the shows were recorded, and an incredible album, "Live At Fillmore West," was released only a couple months later. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aretha_Live_at_Fillmore_West I ed furiously when I heard the album, especially a song called "Dr. Feelgood." This is a performance from the same year, same band with King Curtis backing her as what she had at Fillmore West. It's so ... RAW ... and so sophisticated at the same time. What a woman! davidk14: . Sixties, I don't think those that have read our recent posts completely understand what we experienced back in the day. Aretha....God bless. . | Off Topic Chat Room Similar Conversations |
