Whispering Mist: The US is boring compared to all the places I have seen since being on Wire. What is the food like?

Jetters: Thai food is the bomb. Does the states have Thai food as takeaway. Its more popular here than Chinese. But in Thailand its just so much fresher. Phad thai is my fave, but they have lots of curries and use STACKS of vegies.

Whispering Mist: I think all the food here is Americanized. Pretty hard to find authentic at least in my state.

Jetters: Its the same here, Thai food tastes completely different than in Thailand.

DiIIy: All the Asian countryside is beautiful but i have no desire to travel to any of them.

The sex trade and child prostitution put me off. As well as the drug trade. My GFs always travel to Bali and Thailand but are even now giving it a miss due to all the reports of tourist being set up to buy drugs.

The people and culture are lovely but not for me.

In reply......I accept your apology. I also accept that you have finally realized that there are good and bad people in ALL COUNTRIES....IN ALL CULTURES.

Allow me to apologise to have had to teach you this lesson the hard way.......believe me, it made me very uncomfortable to have to teach you this lesson in the only way that you would understand. I apologise.

Let's put this behind us and start anew........We all know there are bad things and bad people in this world. Let us however, try to focus on all the wonderful things and all the wonderful people that there are in this world. It is these people that truly deserve our recognition.

Rabbits88: Pearl.......acceptable opinion......I really have no problems with it.

what I would like to do however is to clear up some misconceptions about a couple of things.....

1) The Thais love their children with all their hearts, more so than any other people on Earth. You do not want to get caught harming a Thai child. If you dare hurt a Thai child in this country.....trust me, you will not only feel the wrath of the government authorities, but also the wrath of the parents, the neighbours and in many cases the entire village.....both physically, emotionally and financially.......if the person committing the act makes it out alive after dealing with the community and the subsequent police interrogation (if you know what I mean), that person faces a very long and hard prison sentence in the Bangkok Hilton. Rest assured, it's a resort that you would never want to go to.

2) The police are seriously cracking down on said abuse. The government has pumped billions into the crackdown. 99% of the gangs committing these heinious acts are Westerners and they do it for Westerners and always without the parents knowledge of what is really happening to the child.

3) Keep in mind that Thailand is still a developing country. Many people living in the rural areas and villages are not savvy to the evils of the world. They are a very trusting people but they are not educated, not street smart and just too trusting. And the unscrupulous from the West know this. They come with the promises of taking the child to put them in top notch schools......train them to have a career that will make them lots of money.......And of course we know that it doesn't happen.

4) saying that, it is still a VERY SMALL MINORITY that is affected by this. And, may I add, it happens in every country in the world......the sex trade, the exploitation, the child abuse, etc. etc. Please don't make me post videos of this but I will if I have to. THIS IS NOT A THAI PROBLEM........THIS IS A WORLD PROBLEM.......I live here, I know. I have a child myself.....I have a family.

Think about this........I am a Westerner.........even though my wife also holds multiple citizenships including that of CANADA. with our education and financial standing, we can qualify to live in ANY country in the world. Why would I choose to live here and subject my family to these kinds of things if they were true???????

Answer......of course I wouldn't..........The Thais are very loving, very caring people. They love their children like no one can possibly imagine......They sacrifice their lives for their kids. They are that family orientated. It's too bad that a few lowlifes come here and prey upon their loving and trusting nature.......but rest assured.........the police and the government will literally destroy a person caught committing such inhumanities to these kids.

Rabbits88: As for the drug trade that you mentioned...........
1) Bali is in Indonesia, not in Thailand.

2) You can't be setup if you stay away from drugs. don't try to buy drugs and you'll have no problems.

3) There are drug mules everywhere. Drugs is not a Thai problem alone. It is a world problem.

4) Again, the government and the police will crucify you in Thailand if you're caught dealing. They do continious spot checks.......No need for warrents here. I've seen the police come into a disco....totally unannounced........stop the music........turn on the house lights........and not only search each and everyone for drugs but also conduct on the spot drug testing for those suspected of drug dealing and/or drug abuse. They don't do that in the West.

5) You get the death penalty here if caught dealing. Youu don't in the West.

I accept your opinion Pearl......but I respectfully say that you have a lot of misconceptions about Thailand and it's people.

You really are doing yourself an injustice not to come here and experience all the wonders that Thailand has to offer.

Their are ex-pat clubs here......there is the IWA here (International Women's Association). There is even a totally separate police force known as the Thai Tourist Police. These police officers are WESTERNERS meant to help tourists in need. No other country in the world that I know of actually has such a police force available to foreigners. all of these groups are there for your use........to show you all the wonderful things that Thailand and the Thais have to offer you. They are also there to guide you in ways that will keep you out of trouble and away from the lowlifes.

a final thought.........drugs is a world problem......child abuse and exploitation is a world problem.........there are good and bad in all countries in all cultures. Thailand being no different.

Bottom line......I live here and I wouldn't if conditions were truly as you are currently thinking that they are. I have a choice.

DiIIy: Im fully aware that the issue with children is WORLD WIDE but its more obvious in Asian counties like Thailand and Bali. The aging White guys with the young pretty Asian women/girls disgusts me. The ageing white men that have young house boys, like thats normal.
Why does this bother me because it degrades the women/children that due to their financial situation they resort to taking a much older partner/companion and the men, well they obviously have issues with western women and majority cant get a women other than Asian.

After saying that, im in no way racist towards Asians and have no issues an Asian women or man being with a western women or man but when theres like a 40yr old gap.....yer thats love.

My Uncle has been with my Aunty (Asian) for 50yrs they meet whilst both young and have had a beautiful life. But they are equals.

DiIIy: As for Bali, like i said i have friends that travel there frequently and yes they do try and set you up. Its all about getting money im afraid by any means they can.

Th young 14yr old Aussie boy isnt enjoying his time in jail cause he was folish enough to buy some pot of a street seller and hours later boooommmmm arrested, like how would the police know.

They are both legally consenting adults. I obviously don't agree with it but an ADULT has the right to be with whoever he or she wants to be with.

My reply: it's not normal. It is such a minority that I have never seen it myself nor have any of my friends.

Further, again, allow me to play devil's advocate for a moment. If the 2 people involved are both Adults and consenting, who are you to judge what they do in their bedroom? do you have a problem with gay people?

As said, I don't agree with it....I may not even like it....but if they are 2 consenting adults....then they have the right to be with whom they choose to be with.

again, it's a minority.....a small minority at that.......I can further find the same practice being done in ALL Country's.

PS: Pearl, what exactly is a houseboy? That word is foreign in Thailand. It's never used and it implies child abuse.......when infact if it was child abuse, the abuser would be immediately jailed and probably have the living shit kicked out of them in prison by the police.

My reply........how do you know what is in the mind of another Adult? You don't. Maybe, in this culture, older people are respected for their wisdom........maybe, the woman are with the man for the money...........the point being...........you have no right to interfere in what 2 legally consenting adults do in their private lives......as for needing the money...........they have Mcdonalds here Pearl.........McDonalds is always hiring.

Again, I don't agree with the age gap......I am only 5 years older than my wife........but I have no right to interfere with who an adult wants or does not want to be with.
