Sarcastic Dots: People are unable to watch serialised television shows because it forces them to think. Better to watch a show that allows you to laugh at freaks, than to watch a show that makes you sink into a deep depression as you analyse the show and yourself.

Both kind of shows have their place, but outside of HBO programming (state side) and the BBC, there is barely any variety. Where, for example, are the good science fiction shows?

We have Doctor Who and... Hmm.

Edit: Something I can't tolerate are the viewers that actually idolise these people. I was buying some chicken at Nando's a few weeks ago (as you do) when a girl gets in line behind me. She is bright orange, with fake eyelashes and two huge blobs of blue mascara rubbed around the eyes. It was vile, putrid and grossly unattractive... I thought I was looking at some kind of alien or piss-poor oompa loompa impersonation. The worst part is that these kind of people would be attractive without their halloween costumes.

Geoff
Geoff: Dots - Stargate: Universe has been holding up the US's side of quality sci-fi programming, as has Falling Skies. A town called Eureka isn't bad although a little light for some tastes. Oh, and Futurama is back

Here in the UK we've benefited from the new Sky Atlantic channel here, which has been showing some of the excellent television from the other side of the pond. The outstanding Game of Thrones adaptation (OK, it was filmed in Northern Ireland and a large part of the cast are British, the rest are Americans putting on British accents), Boardwalk Empire, Treme, and re-runs of older shows like X-Files and Sopranos.

British TV seems to be getting clogged up with reality and talent shows. The occasional glimpse of light from such excellent programming as Qi or the new Dinosaur Planet seem to be in the decline.

mrluckymatt: It's a pretty sad show...makes us americans look like a bunch of spoiled rotten/whiney ass people. I can't believe people actually follow the show and are serious about liking it...

Geoff
Geoff: There are currently three British variants of Jersey Shore being shown. Geordie Shore, The only way is Essex, and Made in Chelsea.

All of which I am actively put off watching within a few moments of the advert coming on.
