What was your first concert?

~LoisLane~
~LoisLane~: I remember my first concert. I was pretty young and it was soooo exciting.I have been to soo many through the years but my very first one (not including things like The Ice Capades ect..) Was The Jackson Five *The Victory Tour*. OMG was it ever amazing. I will never forget it. There are only a few people I would bother to go see in concert now. (I mean shizz everyone is like 80 now hahaha) But I will never forget the first one. It was hard to top.
What was your first concert? Or at least your most memorable one to date

StuckInTheSixties
StuckInTheSixties: Perfect timing!

Last week I went shopping and bought a bunch of music. One of the things I bought was a box set by Creedence Clearwater Revival. Last night I was looking over the booklet for that box set, and it included a picture of a poster for a gig Creedence played, the San Francisco International Pop Festival, on October 26-27, 1968. That was my first concert.

Seeing that poster got my curiousity going. I remembered that Creedence was there, as well as a number of other groups, but I wondered if there was a source on the web that would recount just who played the fest. So I began searching. I came across a website where people were talking about it, offering up their memories, etc. Here's the little essay I included for that:

This was the first rock concert I ever attended. I was 15, living in Napa, and a big fan of Iron Butterfly at the time. They were the main reason I wanted to go. Somehow I talked my mom into taking me! We drove down there in the family station wagon, and even spent the night there, sleeping in the car, between shows. My mom spent both days sitting up in the grandstand, meeting other parents who were there. I went down in front of the stage and hung out there with all of the dope smoking hippies. I was so young and innocent. It was great! Can you imagine a housewife today, taking her teenager to a two day rock festival, and turning him loose to just disappear into the crowd for hours on end?

While I was there for Iron Butterfly, the biggest impression on me was made by Jose Feliciano, which surprised me. I wasn't particularly interested in him or his music, but he blew the place apart! I remember that the Chambers Brothers were fantastic, too. Actually, I was impressed with every single band over both days.

I've been poking around on the web, trying to find an accurate, complete list of the bands that performed. As someone else has said, I'm quite sure that The Everpresent Fullness was not on that bill. One band I'm pretty sure was there, but I've seen no other mention of, was Aum.

This is who I've been able to come up with:

Lee Michaels
Buddy Miles Express
Eric Burdon & the Animals
Canned Heat
The Grass Roots
Deep Purple
Procol Harum
Creedence Clearwater Revival
Iron Butterfly
Jose Feliciano
The Chambers Brothers
Rejoice
Mad River
Johnny Rivers
Aum
Fraternity Of Man

Sixties,

We are the same generation, living in the same place, living in the same time in the 60's and 70's in the San Francisco Bay Area during the most exciting times for music.

I saw Blood, Sweat and Tears in SF in the early seventies. I was at a USF dance and Chicago was playing as the band before their first record.
For a week, I spent time with Janis and her band, Big Brother and the Holding Company before her first record and dance the nights away....it was awsome. I sort of remember going to GG Park at Speedway Meadows for numberous bands on the weekends. I sort of remember going to concerts at the....um...what was the name of that concert place...in SF...dang...just can't recall that place...

Good times...good memories...the ones I can remember anyway...

Edit note: Just rememebered.....Avalon Ballroom

~LoisLane~
~LoisLane~: WOW there are some pretty good concerts people have gone too (lols @ Malo ) Some I have also wanted to see ESP Queen and Billy Joel (such a regret I missed him and Elton when they came ) I also missed George Michael a few yrs ago cuz no one wanted to go with me hahaha and ESP didnt want to pay those prices, so I missed him.

Its funny when you see a band more then twice, I mean thats love right there lols. I only saw Aerosmith and Metallica more then once (was worth it). I still always wanted to see the Beastie Boys, that would have been awesome. (and of course most of the Rock bands from the day).
