This generation

Sables
Sables: do you think that they are more violent than in the past? Is it the fact that the world has gotten smaller because of media and the internet and we hear more that is going on?
Or do you think that kids and young adults are desensitized from violent games and tv shows?

No need to draw my sword over the petty stuff, especially when
I can cut the amateur trolls around here down without breaking a sweat.

miss gege: i think it's both....we hear more, ergo more copycats and ya i believe kids are more violent, have less respect, some feel it's their right that their parents should be giving them stuff ie:deserved ..... i'm not a parent this is strictly observation and what i hear in malls and on a bus or subway

Sables: I also think that they have been desensitized from violence on tv and video games...yes they are told that this is not real but it just seems that they have so much anger...and don't know the value of a life...kill each other for drugs, a coat, a car...

Morsy: I think it is more publicised and also agree that we can all become desensitised to certain situations. Mothers didnt work at one time but violence went on behind closed doors and acting out for the children in these situations came later or they took what they learnt into their adult lives or hopefully some broke the chain. A woman with children in an abusive situation these days doesn't have to leave the family home like before laws were put in place. There are more broken families where once they stayed together because it was the norm. Lots of examples and changes but I do believe it is not so hidden now. There are violent women too who are mothers or carers.

Sables: yes but my premise was young adults...gangs...guns and weapons are under all their jackets now, road rage, it is getting to a point you are scared to drive down the road in case you accidently cut someone off and next thing you know you are looking down the nose of a gun kids walking in schools killing other kids....

calybonos: I think there can be no denying that we as a society have become more violent.
Sure in the past many violent things were not as widely seen compared to the
availability of todays instant information superhighway that dominates virtualy
every aspect of our daily lives, but all you have to do is look back at the way we
handle daily conflicts(exculding war, which has always been an anything goes affair),
our heros principles, our respect given to our parents and older people.

In older times,a fight with someone at school meant meeting them afterwards, and
rarely went beyond fists being used and ended with no more than a black eye of a fat lip.
Today in the movies we don't want a 'good' hero,we want a mean muthafugga that
will not stop at an eye for an eye,but one thats going to rip the bad guys head clean
off and shit down his neck.

The ideal 'good ol days' never really existed, but what we consider as acceptable ways
to deal with problems has been fired by several decades of exposure and oversaturation
to a mentality that tells us that we(as individuals)are more important than anyone else,
so important in fact...that any thing that doesn't go our way will be seen as a personal
insult to our egos and should be destroyed rather than dealing with.

Sables: well said Caly
I do remember the days when if the guys had a disagreement they took it outside, never at any party (and there were alot ) did anyone ever pull out a knife or a gun or anything that could be used as a weapon

Morsy: Yes I understood the premise I was giving examples of maybe why it is more prevalent and publicly acted out today. Because the topic did ask is it worse today or not.
Some unfortunately take delight and a sick satisfaction in terrorising others for the smallest reasons.

Sables: That was part of my point Lucid, that I think that people have been desensitized to violence because they see it day in and day out in games, the media...movies....
And don't get me wrong I loooove a good action movie, but I am not going out to buy a gun.
I guess the fact that most families, both parents are working and children are latch key and there is no one there to tell them this is not the way we treat people in real life....
