Oh...by the way... lavendar_star: This is not only very sad but very funny, teens on twitter didnt realise Titanic was a real event just that its a Hollywood movie (which isnt even 100% accurate), I mean what the fuck. http://ca.news.yahoo.com/blogs/trending-now/twitter-backlash-people-did-not-know-titanic-real-163523705.html I posted this in another thread but it relevant so I am re posting davidk14: . I...I...am....amazed. WTF are they teaching our kids in schools? One of the most historic events in world history...Titanic. I really shouldn't be amazed. Just scary. . Jetters: I cant speak for high school curriculum, but its certainly not part of primary curriculum. It is in fact, general knowledge which is something that should come from home :/ Unfortunately there isnt time to teach every significant event in human history in an hr a week lol.. (Time allocated to HSIE in elementary) (Edited by Jetters) lavendar_star: Well I never got taught about that at home but I just knew some how by being edcuated but I bet you those teens know all about Justin Beiber and the Kashidians though lol (Edited by lavendar_star) davidk14: . One of the reasons I do not have a TV. My 52 inch stopped working a few years ago and decided to see how long I could go without. I was amazed how my time had been 'managed' by the TV. I don't even miss the shows I had liked. And as far as the 'news', best thing in the world not to watch and listen to 80%+ of the 'sided' complimentary by so called 'journalists'. However, I do miss the Rocky and Bullwinkle re-runs. . Wild__: Rocky and Bullinkle! Ah yes, the childhood memories. I only watch TV during football season. (American style) GO 49ERS!!!! unicorn1: All year long in Ireland, events through all the schools commemorating the sinking of the Titanic. Lots of wreath laying, survivor accounts, and trips to the Belfast shipyards for the kids . Titanic will never be forgotten here. Lucid__: Its surprising what children are not taught in our schools. I learned about the titanic at home, my grandma was fascinated with it and collected books etc about it. Sarcastic Dots: "I cant speak for high school curriculum, but its certainly not part of primary curriculum." I was about to ask why it should be part of the curriculum, then I read this; "It is in fact, general knowledge which is something that should come from home :/" All is well with the world. Yeah, it's pretty idiotic that certain people on twitter didn't/don't know about the Titanic, but this kind of idiocy has always existed; Twitter just keeps a public record of idiotic comments and idiots, rather than people saying something fleetingly and being corrected. " One of the most historic events in world history" Oh, come on. There are far more important historical PERIODS that schools overlook. The Titanic isa really insignificant historical event, if anything. Comrade_: I think it is something you learn about in everyday chatting, the movie is out you'd expect people to know about it being an actual event by that, not so much as being taught in schools or having to sit down and a parent teach it...it just pops up as a topic and you learn, could be the decline in face-to-face talk on interesting subjects, who knows. What shocks me more are people who don't know basic facts on the WWs because they were really important events. southern77: unicorn.. i would hope that the irish wouldnt forget... i mean you guys did build it as far as common knowledge goes... some dont have common sense Comrade_: You mean the ACDA song? The Red Army also did some folk songs, I like that it is strong and deep. davidk14: . Jack, I know you hate America but those songs represent our armed forces and if you don't like it so be it but don't be a jerk. . Comrade_: I don't hate America, you might think I do because I don't agree with some of the policies and ideologies, but I disagree with other nations as well. You misinterpret my comments, I wasn't being a jerk, the song I posted isn't undermining yours, I do like the Red Army Choir, nothing political about this. If you think the song you posted is more for carnival music then that's your opinion not mine. Think you should relax. Comrade_: This one is on a lover gone to war. Translates as this: Apple and pear trees were a-blooming, Mist (was) creeping on the river. Katyusha set out on the banks, On the steep and lofty bank. She was walking, singing a song About a grey steppe eagle, About her true love, Whose letters she was keeping. Oh you song! Little song of a maiden, Head for the bright sun. And reach for the soldier on the far-away border Along with greetings from Katyusha. Let him remember an ordinary girl, And hear how she sings, Let him preserve the Motherland, Same as Katyusha preserves their love. davidk14: . No.... I think the song you posted was like carnival music. The music which represents the the brave members of the Armed Services of the United States, is not carnival music. Comrade_: hmm then why did you throw a fit if you were only stating your opinion? I'm not the least bit offended by it. Your taste in music is different from mine, nothing to get worked up on. Army choirs are still playing their music and don't represent anything to me. Comrade_: I don't know anyone who can't be moved by the Alexandrov songs, all politics aside. Though I get why you're that way about it...open up and you might see things different. They were artist, only my opinion that they excel in that to another level that I haven't seen another military choir reach as yet. The Song of the Volga Boatmen, another traditional song. | Off Topic Chat Room Similar Conversations |
