(Page 2) halfapintdoll: There was something to be said about old exile, none of the rooms that have been made since have actually been anything like it. People end up booting people or other such things. These people who complain about being trolled used to come into exile to cause trouble and then run to mods complaining. I fear some people just like the drama or like playing the victim. Nothing is going to change that - Exile recreated or all the ''trolls'' removed from the internet. They will find something else to play the victim over - it's in their make up.  stones1975: the trouble with the d.i.y. exile rooms was the modding and the mixed loyalty that went with it.....sure people hate (dont like using hate on the net) the trolling but thats what made exile what it was...you copped it on the chin and/or gave some back or you left. the other thing that was lacking for d.i.y exiles was the randoms... with out them green eventually turned on greens....it was all a bit lord of the flies if they ever do bring back an open exile....there should be only one hard and fast rule.. Everyone has waked up to the fact that trolls are at bottom just very jealous and pathetic souls who try to remove the bright shiny people so they can feel better about themselves . So the whole trolling thing is something that mostly old timers practice and sometimes to be honest they look downright sad to everyone else when they're doing their trying to run their petty little agendas. And it IS sad to see them - once glorious and frightening but now lame and broken with their spineless cowardly nature exposed for all to see. Her study, Trolling in Asynchronous Computer-Mediated Communication, is published somewhat counter-intuitively in the Journal of Politeness Research. Hardaker presented an early form of the paper to a mostly troll-free audience at the Linguistic Impoliteness and Rudeness conference held at her university in 2009. After much research and hard work, Hardaker came up with a working definition. A troll is someone "who constructs the identity of sincerely wishing to be part of the group in question, including professing or conveying pseudo-sincere intentions, but whose real intention(s) is/are to cause disruption and/or to trigger or exacerbate conflict for the purposes of their own amusement". She arrived at this after much trawling through data. Lots of data. A "172-million-word corpus of unmoderated, asynchronous computer-mediated communication", a nine-year collection of commentary in an online discussion group about horse riding. She focused in on the huge number of passages where people mentioned trolls, trolling, trolled, trollish, trolldom, and other variations on the key word "troll". In short words, if someone calls you and idiot, moron, annoying, vapid or attention seeking based on something you said, posted, the way you behave - this does not make them a troll. By expressing your opinion this does not make you a troll. By sharing their opinion of you, no matter how disagreeable you find it - doesn't mean they're trying to cause disruption.
