struanrobertson02: Tool. Tool are one of the best bands in the 90's and 2000's. All though, they have fallen of since then A LOT. Now, I don't know if they are planning on releasing the new album any time soon, eh, time will tell, oh by the way on the 28th, just 4 days away, it'll be the 10th year anniversary of no tool album, yay! Hurry up Tool...
Back on topic! Tool were once a very mad and screamy band in 1991 to 1993, when Maynard the wine seller was a very big metal head. He had some earth trembling vocals, and still did up until Puscifer decades later, heheh yeah. Tool changed after 1993, when Paul Di 'Amour left and Justin Chancellor joined during the makings of one of the best metal albums ever, Aenima. Not to throw Paul and Undertow under the bus, but Aenima was Tool growing up a little and them also getting close to their peak musically and lyrically.

Aenima, it was a progressive master piece that brought along with it, Tool's most memorable songs. The album has 15 tracks, well some aren't necessarily songs, but nethertheless the real songs kicked a#£! No contest that year for Tool, Neil Young and Pearl Jam? Get out of here. Not being disrespectful, It was that jackpot Tool wanted. Fame from the right people, mostly. It had long songs, short songs, good songs and good songs and useless filler as well (Like a baby crying or hitler giving cooking lessons).

Tool had a very crunchy, artifical and sorta ET sounding music. They had a unique sound that has never been replicated well by other wannabe bands, because they did it best. Brilliant Tracks like "Aenima", "Stinkfist" and "H" are the outcome of Tool working so hard in their haydays to make something perfect. They are a great band, they just have some "insufferable" fans and are slightly overrated for some people.

Next and maybe last on their grand streak of albums, Lateralus. K, Aenima is said to be their best, but really, Lateralus is. It had a great unique, fresh, reoccurring and progressive atmosphere that none of their other albums had. "The Grudge", once you hear it open for the album you know it's Lateralus! Speaking of Lateralus, the title track may just be the best goddamn song since the 21st century begun, as of now.

Tool then finished off with 10,000 days, that is a good filler album. In the same words but phrased differently, a good album full of filler. But yeah, Rosetta Stoned, Wings of Marie 2, Vicarious (Love this one :3) and Jambi are all brillaint songs, the rest was decent. But the album still fitted together quite well. I call it Lateralus and Aenima's ugly duckling.

The EPS are good as well, mainly Opiate. Salival is meh.

So yeah, that's a histroy of Tool and you should listen to their stuff if you like metal or prog, and I suggest starting with Lateralus. It's their magnum opus. As explained above.
A well known one. The Pot.

Eulogy. I Love the lyrics, so memorable and the "Don't you lie" part reminds me of some Girls.

This ones my fav. Vicarious.

Lateralus. Their greatest song. So many legendary riffs and solos. The lyrics are phenomenal:

struanrobertson02: Pink Floyd. Pink Floyd is a ship full of emotion that takes you onboard, so much emotion infact and sinks and take you down with it on a experience like never before. They have a few garbage, and loads of weak or alright albums. But they have several great ones, you should start listening theough there discography from one of these albums.

I'll rank them:
1. Dark Side Of The Moon. 2. Wish You Were Here. 3. Animals. 4. The Wall 5. Piper At The Gates Of Dawn. 6. Meddle. 7. The Division Bell.

Ummugumma, Atom Heart Mother and A Saucerful Of Secrets are all good, but these 7 are the best albums in their discography.

They might not be the kings of Prog, although close to be they are more experimental and maybe even more diverse than bands such as King Crimson or Emerson, Lake and Palmer.
They have a few prog (Some Psychedelic) epics that can rumble with their Prog Counterparts.
Like Echoes, Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Astronomy Domine, Careful With That Axe Eugene, Interstellar Overdrive, Atom Heart Mother Suite, Dogs & Time.

But who were they as musicians? They were all decently talented, far, far from Virtuosos. Except for Gilmour, who is a master at emotion in guitar.
There main force was their phenomenally sophisticated songwriting and how consistent they were. They were musical geniuses, much more mind than skill and were kinda the opposite version of Dream Theatre as well. Syd Barrett, the founder of Floyd was one of the most brilliant, bright and unique minds to ever scrape the musical land scape, ever. He was heavily influenced by The Beatles, and went onto to use his bright personality and genius to make songs such as: Astronomy Domine & Interstellar Overdrive, he was an excellent guitar player as well.

Roger Waters was also a genius, just look at his lyrics in the 70's and all the songs he and Gilmour wrote. Also is a good singer. Gilmour's guitar playing was unique and he had some of the most amazing guitar work. Richard Wright and Nick Mason were also bright minds and good at their instruments.

Anyway, here is some of their best songs:

Careful With That Eugene: This and Starless have a similar vibe that sends shivers down my spine, everytime. There is probsbly a video with better audio but this live performance is haunting:

Comfortably Numb: Probably their most famous work, that guitar solo is so good live with a light show:

Time: Beautiful work that pretty sums up Dark Side:

Shine On You Crazy Diamond: Their best arguably, what else is their to say? LISTEN!
