Of recent sci-fi films, I really liked District 9.

Kaizoe: 2001: A Space Odyssey.
First time I saw it I was all "meh, nothing is happening in this movie..."
Second time: Something might be going on in this movie.
Third time: Something is going on in this movie.
Fourth time: Something IS going on in this movie!
Fifth time: Oh, I think I might be getting it now.

Geoff: 2001 was written and filmed as a tandem project by Clarke and Kubrick. By the end of it they couldn't stand the sight of each other.

I really like Star Wars, but I accept that it's not sci-fi. I'd say it has to be a Philip K Dick adaptation as my favourite, possibly 'A scanner darkly'.

But I think that is another where you have to have read the book.

I'm still waiting for some Uplift films, Brin is the bomb.
