I try to read the bible to gain some knowledge about this world I live in and

tina_time7: if there is a God. But I seem to get puzzled in areas. For instance, it says how God will comfort, but I do not feel comforted by him. If I do it is only rarely and for a short moment until I fall asleep or such. Maybe his comfort is not the kind of comfort I am used to thinking of as comfort. I will check what the word comfort means in the dictionary first of all. Secondly, it says he will settle me but for years I have been unsettled - ever since my mommy died. 15 years have passed just this October. I am not so rarely scared and even terrified of this life. In the bible there is a passage that says "I am just a young child, I do not know where (or when) to go out and come in" and I found this relatable. And then in that passage God says that he will show the man how to judge the people fairly. I don't think the man was actually a young child - but I think he just felt that way at heart. I have been called "a baby" "little girl" "not managing with life" "scared" - because people could tell I guess. I have also been called "strong for the way you think" but also "weak". Anyways, so I agree but I can't say I have really seen God leading me and rescuing me from feeling so small - although some days I am more confident. Secondly it says he will lead me but I have been going through one place to the next - one job to the next - for various reasons, no job, relation to relation - relations ending - it is really hard to live when every relation just ends - you just feel like you are in hell, in a hopeless vortex. So then I would get these thought - just jump off a cliff - but I am scared to become paralyzed and even worse off than I am now. How is such desperation showing God cares for me though? And sure I already looked into this and people online write - he doesn't care because he doesn't exist. It also says - seek me with all your heart and you will find me (God) and I seem to be doing this lately. I have also done this in the past.

There are a number of interesting and valid quotes in the Bible. But there are also many parts of it which could be considered to contradict each other.

Belief in God is a "belief". Millions of people take comfort in that belief for a variety of reasons. But to take the Bible as a reliable proof of the existence of God in a specific form is less of a certainty.

Sometimes the belief itself can seem to help people, regardless of whether there's any objective reason to think there is a deity. You've posted thiis under Health rather than Religion, and that makes a certain amount of sense. Because of the Placebo Effect, the connection between mind and body.
Sometimes believing in something hopeful, whether or not there is any scientific reason to believe it, can have positive effects on our physical health. Psychosomatic.

Do you know the Disney cartoon movie "Dumbo"? If you do, you might remember the "magic feather", and how his belief that it was magical allowed him to fly. Dumbo's magic feather was the placebo effect.

solittle: If religion cured everything, we wouldn't have to discuss it at all. Everyone would be religious, and everyone's life would be perfect. Obviously it doesn't work so completely.

tina_time7: Sometimes I feel religion doesn't even change people to be better persons. I mean on the other hand it might since it stands for being charitable and so on but at the end of the day it seems people lash out and are kind - religious or not. I don't really know whats up at the end of the day or right now I guess.

tina_time7: But you know what's interesting - I knew nuns who lived in a convent and one of them admitting to being negative with the others but yet they all seem to work it out and still live together in harmony and unity I presume because they don't leave. But people have room mates and fight and have disagreements or what not and do leave.

COLLAGE Band: Religion In Still In The Stone Age. Example: When You Go To School ,You Learn As Much As You Can In 1 Grade,Then Move On To The Next. Now With Religion It's Not So. One Goes To Church,Mosque,Temple,Synagogues,,But They Just Repeat The Same Things They Learned At First Stage. They Are Still Infants When It Comes To Spiritual Learning. When Will They Graduate To Being A Spiritual Scholar? They For Years Just Keep Going And Hearing The Same Things They Heard Years Ago,Over And Over Again. Just Totally No Spiritual Progress Whatsoever.

otha_m_kennedy: Spiritual scholar: God has no beginning or end so, we as Christians never graduate or have any gain here on earth. Our life is to never die the death. our lives are eternal. Christ's perfect sacrifice on the cross gave all a saving grace. Prayerfully study his word (Bible) You will understand. Give an effort of belief one time in your life! Christ will come to you if you go to him.

tina_time7: I think a part of me can agree that believing is worthwhile even if it is not true, solittle, but another part of me would rather live in reality and just beleive or not beleive depending on the reality of things. However, I may never really know while on this earth. After all - it is about faith, not about knowing. Unless I have such faith that I just know but not sure if that is how it works. Sometimes it did feel like it is the truth though so I guess faith can be a knowing. But it is easy to doubt in times of hardship. At least personally. Just sharing. The verse in the bible about spiritual growth talks about being a baby in Christ and taking milk or something like this. Plus then being an adult in Christ.

tina_time7: collage, I think just because the same things are repeated every year does not mean that people do not still grow spiritually. Just sharing.

otha_m_kennedy: Tina : Belief is the building blocks of faith. Believe with all of your strength, The miracles of just life as we know it should convince you there is something greater than any form of evaluation or other forms of Herisse. One God/One creator.

otha_m_kennedy: We as Christians must be able to totally forgive each other. Always agree to respectfully disagree at all times. Know God's commandments and obey.

otha_m_kennedy: Judgement : Oh my! Christ will judge us all the day / time when he comes. This is something that most have problems with. Just think ! Jesus was his name, Christ is what he did. Jesus was a man God, Christ was our Messiah, our savior. It bothers me when I hear people calling him Jesus Christ. his first name and only name was Jesus. Christ is what he did. Christ died on the cross for us all. If you need to say both, say it as Christ Jesus. Remember this! God was the father of our lord.
