Teacher Quits Over NYC Mandate for Vaccination

ClassicCarTunes: Ok - raise your hand if you were in the US military .... ok .. a few hands here ... ty for your service

Do you remember mandatory flu vaccinations? Yes, you do .. ok ... me too. We had no choice in the matter. It was not, "Sergeant can I be excused." Unless you could prove by medical excuse that getting the shot was dangerous to your health .. you got it.

So as I watched this video tonight ...

https://www.cnn.com/videos/health/2021/10/01/new-york-city-teachers-vaccine-mandate-unvaccinated-nr-vpx.cnn

I note that while I sympathize with the teacher she is in close personal spaces with 20-30 other children and adults each day she works. No matter how hard we have tried to sanitize spaces and wear masks over the last year and a half people have still caught the virus from others and died.

So where are the tears for the children who are dying because someone who wouldnt get the vaccine (it has been shown to reduce the chance of transmission of COVID) gave COVID to one of their students?

Look -- you dont want to get poked .... change your job for a year or more until this all blows over. Go work in a warehouse. Work at home on a book. Whatever. Work somewhere where you have less risk of giving COVID to someone else.

I am a religious person. I believe in God. However, I noted that this teacher cannot even use one religious reason why she shouldn't get the shots. How about compassion for the students? What about them? The stats are overwhelmingly showing that people without the shots die far more often than those who have the shots. What about yourself? No compassion for yourself? Are you on some "death wish?"

Yes, people have had severe reactions to the vaccine and the medical world has no list of conditions where you should avoid the shots. If you are that worried about the side effects that is your choice. Just isolate or take a job where you work in the open spaces. A warehouse job or driving job where sanitizing is performed is a much better option .. than a school house.

ClassicCarTunes: Many parents have decided not to have their children attend school because the child has a medical condition OR they just want to keep them at home until the pandemic is over. I know many home-schooling parents. Their kids are mentally healthy and it can be done. Its hard on the parents but the kids can join in on local school field trips, attend lectures, play in sports. They also tend to have a higher GPA than public school kids.

I know of churches that have a school where the teacher actually monitors the home schooling efforts of the parents and kids. They are there to administer tests and help the students with their book work. A nice option for parents who need to work during the day.

xylance: Staistically children are more at risk of having an adverse reaction to the vaccine than they are of becoming seriously ill from COVID.
The COVID vaccine does not prevent transmission it merely lessens symptoms and the young already have only mild symptoms.
The vaccine is still only licensed for emergency use. This license will be reviewed again in 2023. The reason it is only licensed for emergency use is because they cannot know if there is any long term risk factors associated with the vaccine.
Unlike previous vaccines, the clinical trials of this vaccine were never undertaken. As far as we know it seems pretty safe, but why should anyone be forced to take part in a clinical trial especially for the sake of someone else.
The vaccine is available to anyone who feels vunerable or has underlying health conditions and they are free to take it. However, those who decide to take it must know that by doing so they are only protecting themselves, it will not stop them from catching COVID nor will stop them from passing it on. So the idea that this teacher is being selfish is nonsense.
