Have you been vaccinated for anything? (Page 3)

Metaverseguy: People are investing a lot in those countries. I think if there isn't a big catastrophe in those places in 30-50 years they will really turn around.

mirja: how much can we predict deseases beforehand? makes more understandable if there is an outbreake? dosnt a child get immunity to those deseases from parents? especially if they are vacccinated for the same desease

Geoff: No, children don't get immunity from disease from their parents. Which is why, if you don't want your kids to get crippled by polio or blinded by measles, you need to get them vaccinated. If I had my way, parents who refused would get carted off to jail for child abuse.

And they predict the strains of influenza through carefully studying how the strains move around the world. Here is the CDC's explanation:

And this rather simplified version comes from the Science Museum of Minnesota

Geoff: Breastfeeding protects the child, but only while you breastfeed.

It is only the vaccination program, which exposes the child to the disease (in a controlled, measured dose) which produces the anti-bodies that will protect them for the rest of their lives.

Measles as an adult is almost as serious as in a child. Like chickenpox in adults it can result in sterility.

Luckily for the dumb few who refuse to immunise their kids - herd immunity (i.e. most people being sensible enough to get their kids immunised) protects those few who won't (or those rare few who can't).

Thankfully, the Finns are pretty good at this sort of thing. Most of them have the sensible Scandinavian attitude towards medicine (i.e. - it always tries to be better than the illness it prevents).

Aura: What you are relying on Mirja, is herd protection. Because so many people are vaccinated against a disease it just doesn't get a foot hold and thus the few who can not be vaccinated won't come in contact with it either so they don't get sick. By not vaccinating by choice rather than circumstance, like being too weak, young, sick or whatever, people who don't vaccinate their kids are creating an environment where they grand children and great grandchildren can no longer depend on herd immunity. And to some, this is really bad new.
I consider it very selfish and cowardly.

Geoff: I suggest you watch some documentaries on Smallpox.

Dying from smallpox is a long and painful death. International cooperation and vaccines got rid of it.

Medicine has removed the ever present spectre of death - without antibiotics, a simple scratch, or even some of the bacteria that is naturally present in a human, can kill someone within days.

So yes, you think for yourself, but if your kids are ever dying, then you had better take them to a hospital and not some hippy witch doctor.

Aura: Have you? Have you looked up the child death rates before the vaccination program? Or are you just repeating what you are hearing from some celebrity?

Geoff: Yah - you think for yourself. We'll make sure our kids become adults.

I have thought for myself, and I have learned to study the evidence. Since your grasp of English is so poor you have to shout down reasoned debate with caps, I suggest you look online, I am sure it is available in Finnish.

Aura: Well I stood with a child in my arms in the hospital with whooping cough, turning blue because the poor thing could not get enough breath, with a desperately crying mother who had refused the vaccine for her a year earlier. And I thought to myself "I will never see my kid suffer like this"
That was a thought made all by myself, without anyone having to tell me

Geoff: No - smallpox doesn't exist anymore, BECAUSE OF VACCINATION - it only survives in two laboratories in the world.

The same medical science defeated the death sentence of syphilis. It beat polio (which crippled many people in my grandparent's generation). It is beating measles. It is about to start beating malaria and AIDS - and those are diseases which kill countless people.

So - don'y vaccinate your kids. Be a fuckwit. But - if you don't like science - get off of our fucking internet.

"Oh, but he/she was vaccinated" - doesn't cut it, you need the boosters too.
