lori100: The U.S. government has patent on cannabis
http://www.naturalhealth365.com/politics_health/0909_cannabis_patent.html

Excerpt:

In 1994, studies at the Medical College of the University of Virginia were funded by the Institute of Health in the hopes that research would show that marijuana damages the immune system. What the scientists found instead was that THC – a cannabis component – slowed the growth of three kinds of cancers.
These types of cancer were lung, breast and a virus induced leukemia. Also, in 1974, researchers learned that THC – the active chemical in marijuana – shrank or destroyed brain tumors in test mice.

Metaphorguy: I was able to find the patent on the patent office web site. So what's the big deal? It can reduce tumors for people that already have cancer inside of them, but what about people that don't have cancer?

And isn't it possible that there are better cancer-reducing drugs, that don't have side effects, like getting high?

Besides plenty of places all over the world are beginning to legalize it for medicinal and even recreational use - so win-win for everyone.

hitsugaya252: Found on a drug world.

>> The immediate effects of taking marijuana include rapid heart beat, disorientation, lack of physical coordination, often followed by depression or sleepiness. Some users suffer panic attacks or anxiety.

But the problem does not end there. According to scientific studies, the active ingredient in cannabis, THC, remains in the body for weeks or longer.

Marijuana smoke contains 50% to 70% more cancer-causing substances than tobacco smoke. One major research study reported that a single cannabis joint could cause as much damage to the lungs as up to five regular cigarettes smoked one after another. Long-time joint smokers often suffer from bronchitis, an inflammation of the respiratory tract.

The drug can affect more than your physical health. Studies in Australia in 2008 linked years of heavy marijuana use to brain abnormalities. This is backed up by earlier research on the long-term effects of marijuana, which indicate changes in the brain similar to those caused by long-term abuse of other major drugs. And a number of studies have shown a connection between continued marijuana use and psychosis.

Marijuana changes the structure of sperm cells, deforming them. Thus even small amounts of marijuana can cause temporary sterility in men. Marijuana use can upset a woman’s menstrual cycle.

Studies show that the mental functions of people who have smoked a lot of marijuana tend to be diminished. The THC in cannabis disrupts nerve cells in the brain affecting memory.

Cannabis is one of the few drugs which causes abnormal cell division which leads to severe hereditary defects. A pregnant woman who regularly smokes marijuana or hashish may give birth prematurely to an undersized, underweight baby. Over the last ten years, many children of marijuana users have been born with reduced initiative and lessened abilities to concentrate and pursue life goals. Studies also suggest that prenatal (before birth) use of the drug may result in birth defects, mental abnormalities and increased risk of leukemia1 in children.

Metaphorguy
Metaphorguy: I read a study published by Cannibas magazine, showing all the data, explaining how it helps people eat, how it is beneficial to people with certain diseases and how it actually reduces the size of cancerous tumors.

Then, I read another article, such as above, and hear the exact opposite. Well, the data and variable, control etc. are all nearly the same. I doubt that a different strain produces different results. So what is it? Am I to believe that "interpretation" of data is so corrupt that cannibas companies refuse to publish any negative evidence of their product, or that research against cannibas is so biased that scientists who fund it refuse to acknowledge the benefits of said product? Because if the control variable is the same why are there so many different dependent variables affected in the outcome different ways.

Because if this is something involving our health why isn't the wrong party being sued? There is 100% agreement on the effects of cigarette smoke. Global warming is nearly universally accepted. After decades of research are we supposed to believe that no one can make clear conclusions about this plant, that can be peer-reviewed and backed up by research from organizations with integrity?

Thor213: pleas respond with citations so i may go to the original article, or publishing journal. try to keep emotionality out of the subject, all scientific studies of any value can be duplicated and is scrutinized internationally by other scientists where as canibus trade has no checks or regulations and true to ljostone63 you got to look to see if its public funded or not or who is funding driving the research where your sources i will give citations in return for yours.
