Anxiety (Page 4)

alpossmar82: Personally looking for therapy the cheapest way out, even cheaper than subsidised prescription fees. I like the Dr Phil, he's always been the joker at work like the guy with a shaved head, or someone that takes time off to watch soaps in the afternoon. The episode on phobias, where a lady was too scared to shower held an arsenal of weapons in fear of attack. Weekly sessions of systematic desensitisation for phobia related stuff not cheap.
Five minutes of this on Dr Phil she was seriously coming around, I got get the DVD series on it for 50 bucks maybe?

Hamzo_Hammy: To Yuppie:

Ok, as a pharmacist; I have seen, been taught, self-taught, studied, experienced many prescription medications at an early age. However, the reason I take my anti-anxiety medication was cause they lead to episodes of grand-mal seizures since i was about 14 years old. now

11 years ago, doctors neglected to mention a million and one thing about the crap they prescribe to you.
That's right, I said crap to medication for anxiety though I am a pharmacist who HAS to take them. Again, HAVING to and feeling AND the need to take a medication are 2 different scenarios.

Let me tell you a story:
Now I am not saying don't take any benzodiazepine type drug or saying take em. I merely going ot tell you some fact, and then you; having a brain, can decide what to choose?
I am not your doctor, cool?
Ok, so I got a seizure now i am on Clonazepam 4 mg , 2 mg 2x a day. I was as high as 12 mg a day at one point.
Now they come in 0.5, 1.0., and 2.0 mg doses.
And Initial dose is set at 0.5 3 x a day.
Being arguably the most anxiolytic benzo on the LEGAL market (Xanax coming second to first). It doesn't matter, all "pam" and "lam" type family drugs are all ADDICTIVE when used regularly, and withdrawal both mental and horrible physical symptoms will manifest with many of these type medications.

Sure they help with the anxiety, but often majority of those patients treated with such medications develop a tolerance and the dose will have to keep increasing to manage anxiety. I mean does that make sense?
Going on a medication to decrease and/or removing your anxiety, but over time it just comes back and you just need more of the same "magic" pixie dust?

Overall, just thought it's worth mentioning that in the long-run, benzos are ineffective in managing anxiety. There are other great medications for that. Talk to your doctor about Zanaflex, clonidine, Cyclobenzaprine, Atarax...etc. These are all less to not addictive alternatives.

Also, don't be afraid to let your parents know, I know it must be hard for you, but I am sure they rather see this issue get resolved before it gets more on your nerves and hence adds to your current anxiety.

P.S, As a yoga instructor, I teach breathing exercises, try yoga as well. and breathe through your nose into your stomach first then let into your chest and out your mouth; then try another variation of breathing. It really helps you know.

Good luck.

Klaeidoscopes Ghetto: Yeah like all these good people said "See a Doctor right away".. I have suffered from Panic Attacks and Social Anxiety for years. The panic attacks were like no fear on this earth that can be explained and when and why they come at anytime..I just know or I use to think "well today is the day I die" It consumed my life and I became a recluse and that can lead into agoriphobic and self medicating..Anything to stop the fear...I finally found my miracle prescription "Klonopin" it is long active and it doesn't make you feel zoned and it is a seizure medicine with the fact that it is also in the clonazepam family..I think seizures and the panic are somehow linked and I believe somewhere down the road they will find the connection..Until then stay safe and don't go through all the wasted years I did

Klaeidoscopes Ghetto: PS: and you can find natural ways to work with the "Mind Fucks" as I call them but dealing with this for 30 years almost did me in .. as no one had a clue to what was happening...They looked for tumors and all else...When that wasn't found they said "I was looking for attention"..They are lucky I didn't give them the attention they needed and went postal on their ass
