♥♥♥♥KittyCat♥♥♥♥: I find I have to fit my fitness around my arthritis - so maybe I'm not the best person to ask on that score. I do my pilates 3+ times per week, and do as much walking as I can fit in with my job (which is a fair amount!)

As for low fat recipes - I follow the Weight Watchers points plan, so good low point food for me would be things like: veggies stir fried with soy sauce (no points there - very little fat) and noodles (3 points if memory serves). Or veggies simmered with a tin of chopped tomatoes, worcester sauce, a little sugar and mixed herbs, mixed in with a portion of pasta. That comes to 6 points in total. Easy, low point food that fills you up especially on days when you are trying to compensate for over indulgence.

Hope that helps!!

VancouverSarah: I have been hibernating all winter and I'm feeling it. No weight loss goals; I was blessed with my father's metabolism, but I have got to do some strengthening, especially my core muscles.

I've been cheating by playing WiiFit. Not great exercise but it's getting me off the couch!

♥♥♥♥KittyCat♥♥♥♥: I have heard that the wii fit can be quite good actually - especially the yoga stuff.

even the wii sport can be quite energetic depending on what you play - boxing is a bit of an aerobic exercise. Every little helps!!

otcclass: I have been walking to and from work each day/night (which is about 30 minute walk one way) which is a good start for me since I have not been able to do all that much during the winter. As I get used to walking that much I am going to see about walking further.
It is hard to watch what I eat though since I am on a fixed income and can not really be picky about what I buy and have to buy the cheapest of everything I can find but I try my best to cut out as much fat and carbs as I can.

♥♥♥♥KittyCat♥♥♥♥: I know what you mean about budgeting and only being able to afford the cheapest of things. Still, it is possible to eat well all the same.

I have lost 6llbs so far on my diet!!

♥♥♥♥KittyCat♥♥♥♥: OK - things I do to keep my budget down:

I buy supermarket own brands wherever possible.
I make my own pasta sauce using tinned tomatoes, herbs and sugar.
I make my own pies etc.
I buy things like cheap sausages and gammon steaks. (I know sausages aren't exactly low fat but in moderation are ok) I then make casseroles etc with them.

I don't know if any of that is helpful at all!!

I guess I am going to have to learn how to cook. That is one of my failings.. I have never really been a good cook.
"cheap" meat??? sorry but at my grocery store there is nothing cheap about the meat.. Hamburger cost $1.69/lb sausage and bologna cost close to $2 per package. The sausage I could more then likely afford but they are not that healthy but the rest of the meat I can not afford..

♥♥♥♥KittyCat♥♥♥♥: wow - obviously prices are different where you are.....

You can make plenty of more vegetarian things though - maybe meat can be a once in a while treat?

Veggie casseroles made with fresh/frozen veg, pasta bakes, baked potatoes with beans.......

Do you not have any discount supermarkets nearby? Or does your supermarket have a certain time of day where they reduce the price of meat etc when it's about to go out of date? Then you can freeze it and use it when you want to.

dellprinter: Hi Kitty
I have been dieting and am reaching my goal.
Im using a pill called alli which is cheating a bit i know but its worked. This pill has a side effect, eat fatty food and you'll know about it lol. So now i just wont eat fatty food. The worst one was the sauces in a jar like pasta sauce etc but im using an organic sauce now and its good. For breakfast I eat porridge or shredded wheat. Protein seems to be the answer, like eggs and chicken breast. I also take an amino acid tablet which is basically proteins for the muscles but this stops the feeling of hunger. Oh ya im walkig more and swimming etc, cut out cheese and chocolate, ya sad but true but its working and im no starving.
C Ya kitty and everyone
Hope this helps

thewesties: My weight loss tip is don't go too hard to fast.
Some people decide they are going to start exercising by running everyday for an hour, this lasts maybe a day or two and then they give up. You need to gradually increase exercise over time, say walk for ten mins 3 times a week then the following week increase it to fifteen mins etc.
Same goes for food. If you say "I'm never going to eat chocolate again" all you do is constantly think of chocolate until you eat a whole block of it. Just cut down slowly. But with food I would never make things off limits, just have smaller potions of what you like less frequently.
This works for me, hope it works for you too.

babyjibryll: Fitness is a lifetime commitment and it is a product of both proper nutrition and exercise.

I used to crash diet or take fat loss pills when I see that the weighing scale is not on my side. I am just lucky to realize that unless I changed my lifestyle, taking pills or doing any short-term method to get off the product of my unhealthy eating habits and poor lifestyle will not help me no matter how much I spend on them.

Tips:

1. Determine your fitness goal. Unless you don't know what you want to achieve, you won't achieve it. Be specific. If you want to lose weight, ask yourself where? How many kgs? Moreover, it is important to give yourself a specific timeline on when do you need results.

2. Get yourself started. Stop trying. The only thing that will hinder you from achieving your fitness goals is your pessimism and procastination habit.

3. Never say you don't have the time to prepare healthy food or too busy to exercise. Eating healthy food with a few hours doing workouts in the gym will give you more energy. We think that we don't have the time to do these stuffs for ourselves because we spend too much time on other activities or it takes us a lot of time to get one task finished because we don't have enough energy. If you think you don't have the time to exercise, that's all the more reason why you have to do it.

3. Remember that spending for your fitness and health is not an expenditure at all. Rather, it is an investment that you owe your body.

So, spend a little on that yoghurt with less fat. Join that gym around the corner so that you get faster results and monitor your progression. Changing your lifestyle is not a walk in the park. Most people love eating burgers and french fries that greens. Many people would rather stay in the couch and watch their favorite shows that running on the threadmill. You're not gonna love doing it (at least for the first time). But, I bet you're gonna love what it does to your body)

Just remember, we only have one life, we only have one body. If we mess it up, we mess up with our life. Fitness is more than just aesthetics. It's more than having lean body with toned muscles. Rather, it's the highest sense of well-being.
