Very yummy imo __Kally_: gin n seven is not too bad...lol to bloody mary's...we call them caesars here... how bout a grey goose??? shot of vodka with grapefruit??? ArkM: Why vodka? It's basically a waste of time in mixed drinks, since it doesn't offer much beyond pure alcohol flavor. Vodkas *do* taste different from each other if you drink them straight but the effect on a cocktail is subtle compared to more flavorful boozes. If you insist on vodka, a Cosmopolitan is probably your best bet for flavor! Here's a recipe from http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/cosmopolitan/Detail.aspx : * 1 (1.5 fluid ounce) jigger vodka * 1/2 fluid ounce cointreau * 1 teaspoon fresh lime juice * 1 1/2 fluid ounces cranberry juice * 1 twist lime zest, garnish Pour all the ingredients into a shaker with lots of ice. Shake vigorously for several seconds and strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a lime twist. P.S. Go for Stolichnaya instead of Grey Goose -- you'll pay half the price for similar quality. ArkM: Vodka has 65 calories per ounce, as do gin, rum, whisky, and tequila. What this means is that most of your cocktail calories come from the mix and vodka is no better in the guilt department than any other hard liquor. I support the use of vodka for something like a bloody mary or caesar, where the mix has so much flavour that it wouldn't benefit from flavourful booze. I guess it's the all around best choice when you want to boozify a perfectly good non-alcoholic drink! :-) ladysonoma: Personally, I love a good Grey Goose Martini or a cape cod. But sometimes I do like grey goose in tonic water. I'm sure this drink has a name but I'm not certain what it is. I do love a good cosmopolitan or a lemon drop once in awhile though. Sometimes I drink madarin vodka with sprite when I need a brisk refreshing drink. Lastly, there's the cajun martini made with pepper vodka and I like to put in real peppers and it's amazing! This will get you typsy, but I only recommend it with a good meal! Dane035: Thanks I'll try the Cosmopolitan. And I do like a Cape Cod from time to time . And vodka can be tasteless but it's what I've been in the mood for. I think that is what also give it versatility. | Food Chat Room Similar Conversations |
