MaThinker (M.T.)
MaThinker (M.T.): Tulsi or tulasi is the indian name for sweet basil, Nosferatu. To find out the actual benefits, just go and research the basil herb. Altho i am Asian myself and live in the Eastern hemisphere, and can certainly vouch for the efficacy of various cultural forms of traditional, thru experience personally and from the many testimonies of others,) yet the panacea, cure-all, "benefit all" claims of these products have to be taken with great reservation. They are often based on traditional beliefs (that does not invalidate their efficacies in some/many cases) and the theories and 'science' behind such claims definitely do not sound convincing for any person schooled in western sciences. However, having said that, i know, as a Malaysian, many allopathic practitioners of Chinese, Malay, or Indian ethnicity will acknowledge some value to these herbal and 'medicinal benefits', and in some cases cure what is not helped by regular allopathic medication. The "Neem" or Margosa herb is another Indian and very popular and time proven herb esp for the treatment of skin ailments, and some years ago, i saw on telly some Indian subcontinent Pharmaceutical Companies looking into processing and marketing the common neem tree Products to replace other much more costly western medicines. AND THEY WERE FOUND TO BE EFFECTIVE, having worked for generations for the Indian people and others.

Nosferatu: Interesting note, maythinker. Thanks for your educated insight. What a trick to just use the Indian name of a common herb to make it look special!

MaThinker (M.T.): Haha NOsferatu ! Incidentally "Neem", a very useful and time tested leaf from the Neem or "Margosa" tree, widely found in India and even where i am in Malaysia, has been known and used much by esp. the INdians. I for one, an ethnic Chinese Malaysian, used to great effectiveness, the Neem or Margosa soap made in India, to overcome a skin condition i contracted from others when the pharmaceutical cream recommended by some doctors did not cure it or give relief for more than a 5 minute span. The name of the skin ailment slips my mind, it is caused by little mites that burrow under the skin, causing great itchiness, maybe u or others can suggest the name? Then again, my friend, many common herbs and spices like turmeric etc have been used in traditional medicines with fair to good results for common ailments. U might care to research on that...........

Red_Clover: Tulsi is a great tea, but most teas have the benefit that was described by OP.

Green Tea & Rooibos has a lot of the same benefits, white tea is said to have the most anti oxidants and recommended for those who have cancer or to prevent it.
Tulsi though...depending if it is blended or something, may cause miscarriage in woman.
I used to manage a tea shop and we sold many varieties...but my memory is a little foggy on the Tulsi.
