Conservationism versus Culture

LiptonCambell
LiptonCambell: What do you think is more important? There's plenty of examples of this conflict- like aboriginals catching fish that are endangered, because it's their cultural heritage, or Japanese hunting dolphins, because their culture is steeped in it- in the Faroe Islands, part of the Kingdom of Denmark, nearly 1000 Long-finned Pilot Whales are driven ashore and killed, as part of their culture going as far back as the time of the viking....

What do you think? Can Conservationism co-exist with some cultures? Or do we have to do away with some cultures for conservationism?

DawnGurl: Cultures once accepted slavery as a way of life, infanticide as acceptable behavior and marrying 9 yr old girls as perfectly fine. The cultures must change with the times, or should I say, they WILL eventually change.
