Metaverseguy: Have you ever studied another language?

I think that language is very exciting and that it reveals a lot about a culture. Seeing that another people form sentences and thoughts differently because of the structure of their sentence is fun. In Spanish adjectives come after nouns instead of before them. In Mandarin they do not conjugate their verbs. In Arabic the text is read from right to left instead of left to right. Russia uses different characters for their words. Eskimos have 1,000 words for snow. In Swahili they do not have numbers that go up to a million or a billion. The Africans use lengths of their arms to measure amount. In Korean the subject doesn't come first so instead of saying "I like you" you would say "you I like".

Metaverseguy: In Spanish double negatives are permitted, but in English they are illegal. So in English you would say I don't have anything, but in Spanish you would say "I don't have nothing" (no tengo nada).

GONZO_JOURNALISM: #1 Your Korean example tells me that the whole country speaks like yoda
#2 I speak a few languages, but I find that you can't usually translate directly between them, as every language has it's own nuances
#3 I think it's easier to learn new languages when your younger and all your brain cells haven't been melted by drugs/booze/debauchery ~ lol

Metaverseguy: What languages have you studied? How did you study them?

Yes, unfortunately a sad part of life is that as we age our brains will not function as well as in our youth. I posted this on my status update, but it's because each cell in our body is constantly being replenished. I don't know how fast this process goes, but I think within a few weeks or months we are technically a new person. A healthy diet, exercise, and probably a bunch of other things influence how fast cells grow and reproduce. I doubt it's a large factor though. People can stay roughly youthful, energetic, and healthy into their 60's. Studying languages and using our brains can even help fight dementia.

I think a good way to keep a healthy mind would be to practice riddles, su do ku, crossword puzzles, cryptograms, etc. etc.. Studies have shown that even socializing helps boost our brain power. For some reason people think that thinking only curtails something like reading, math, or whatever, but it's a complete mystery. Oh and the gray area of the brain is completely unknown to scientists and the functions of many different areas of the brain have mostly been researched and written down.

I don't think light drug use is that harmful and I read the other day that an area of the brain behind the eye briefly shuts off during an orgasm. If you want to study all the effects of drugs on your body I recommend it. Pretty much all drugs are bad to varying degrees, despite what drug addicts or even sometimes doctors say. Ritalin is supposed to have the same effect as cocaine. Ritalin!!!!!!!!!!!!! They've prescribed this to millions of children and it can cause permanent damage.

Metaverseguy: In Hebrew the pronoun "you" is either masculine or feminine, so you would say HOW ARE YOU? differently depending on whether or not you are addressing a male or female.

GONZO_JOURNALISM: Hey dude, yeah obviously drugs are all bad for you to a certain extent...as for pharmaceutical drugs, I don't trust most doctors...so I'd never do them. Last time I had to get stiches in my hand the doctor asked if I wanted a pain killing perscription...I told him, "naaah dude, I have primo morrocan hash @ home that will work way better and have no side effects" He looked at his watch and said, " It's midnight, I get off in one hour, where do you live ? " lol

A lot of languages have female/male versions of the same word/adjective...german/russian/french etc..

To answer your question, I fluently speak engrish, french, Italian, Czech is the mother tongue, I also know pick up lines & swear words in another half dozen languages LOL ... how about yourself Randy ?

Yeah your right.. there's a lot we don't know about the brain

Metaverseguy: I've studied French, Spanish, English, and a little bit of Mandarin. Hash/weed/marijuana/cannibas certainly does have some negative side effects. When you inhale it and hold it in your lungs it kills some of the arioles sac in your lungs.

Yea obviously everyone smokes weed because of the dopamine release and that it's pretty harmless, but maybe try eating food or having protected sex? That also releases dopamine in the system. Laughter is great too. I'd check out the theonion.com

loves_her_soldier: Now that's an interesting subject. I definitely love studying languages and I think the very best way is to listen a lot, no matter if you understand or not.
I've been studying English and Dutch for more than 10 years now, French is my mother tongue, I can also speak Turkish and I'm into Russian at the moment.
I also used to study Spanish and Welsh for my pleasure but it was too much so I'd rather focus on one for now :-)
It is true that when you're young, it is easier to learn a foreign language.
I've realized it by comparing my primary and secondary classes, children memorize new words or intonation so easily.
Motivation has also an impact, of course.
I think every time you learn a new language, you unlock a door. You get to know people you maybe would have never been able to talk to, a new culture. It's a real accumulation of wealth.

Metaverseguy: I think Russian is the hardest language you've learned, although it might not be that hard if your mother tongue is Croatian. I bought a course on beginner Mandarin Chinese and I've been watching a lot of youtube videos on it.I just like it because the characters are different and such. I may be overshooting myself though because it could be too difficult to learn. Maybe I should have learned Arabic. Oh well. Should be interesting.
