So I'm right about part of it, and wrong about part of it. I'm right that it has nothing to do with someone being hotter.. but i'm wrong bout the fact that the fault lies in the person they are currently with.

Aura, well my interest in it is has to do with educating people about these things. There's so many cognitive biases at play that people simply don't realize what is truth and what isn't.

ttttauresa: people cheat in love because to be alone is scary..very few people can actually just be by themselves and it is exactly those people who should not seek relationships. Work on yourself so that you van be an equal partner in a relationship not a codependant parasite.

Khalil6: I would not trade up because that don't mean the girl who is 10x finer then mine girl going to love me like my girl, take care of me when I'm sick, be faithful, etc. Trade up for just looks no, looks don't mean we going to get along, have a good loving relationship. If you would had said she has all the quality my girl has for a relationship plus 10 times better far as look I would maybe had to think about it but that wouldn't meat I would trad up.

dovetail_stormrider: Well being polyamorous, I wouldn't trade up. BUT I may add to my eco system.
Then again our system works on not discarding our mates, but also not owning them.

ToasterFork: I genuinely think a guy would trade up if they are immature and can't man up with a solution to when him and his lady have problems. but then again, some guys are just greedy and might trade up for the hell of it. There are very few men that wouldn't trade up at all, no matter what the circumstance is....

Neanderthal Gangsta: Lumpy, I don't think so. Guys care about whether the person they're with turns them on. Trading up is about status. Integrity often trumps status.

Neanderthal Gangsta: I guess I understand the whole honorable bit.. My point was that even when the guy is not trying to be honorable, if the woman turns him on, then he's content with that aspect of it. It's like.. does the woman you're with get your dick hard. Yes. then a guy isn't going to invest the time in finding another woman to replace her.

What I think happens is that a lot of guys cheat, so the woman they're with think that there's something wrong with them, when they have nothing to do with it. As example, sometimes men cheat with a woman who is not as attractive as the one they're with. I think people just look for an easy and quick reason.. some rationale as to why the man decided to sway, or move on to someone else. It's not a controlled study, so they assume he's trading up. Why can't be other reasons? Maybe he's just a pig who wants to bang any woman he sees, indiscriminately.
