Do you think LONG distance relationships are serious?

mrluckymatt
mrluckymatt: I'm not talking about being a few hours away or within driving distance. I am talking about dating someone you have never met in person or will probably never meet in person. What are your thoughts on this craziness?

mrluckymatt: Oh i'm not asking this question for myself lol. I'm just making sure i'm not crazy...i see people on this site dating others that live on the other side of the world and all....that's all i'm saying. Now say i live in florida, and someone lived in california or up north, that'd be different. You can fly within the U.S. easily and inexpensively. I'm just mainly speaking of other countries and what not lol. Seems crazy to me!

Deepesh_Nambiar: actually speaking.. the thoughts not crazy... cos that was before that a person frm california found India to be far... but now its not that way... people have started making the world a smaller place to live, so in short falling in love with someone at the other side of the world is not that complicated at all is what i feel... if its dating that we are thinking abt... thats a werid experience... i can never date someone who i have never seen before... no blind dates for me Sir

um_um_manda: i am sure people who have "serious" relationships out of the country live fantasy lives. i mean to be committed to that special someone and actually be in love i think some physical contact is required being middle eastern i see how couples get engaged, but one lives in for say Palestine and the other in California, but i think what keeps them going is the fact that they plan on being together and starting a whole new life. but when two ppl connect and have 2 completely diff lives {work, kids, careers, family} moving together or closer wouldnt be as realistic.

ang: everyone is entitled to their opinion... I think it all depends on the situation, the distance, and the persons within it. but man trusting the person would be hell in my opinion.

kdreamer988: You're not crazy, Matt. I agree, saying you're in a "relationship" with someone on the other side of the world whom you've never met is ridiculous. You can't know if you're compatible with someone through words on a screen or even video chatting I think. There's too much about a person that you can never know that way. In my opinion, some people on here seem to do that just for the sake of being able to say they have a "girlfriend," even if it's just online and not real. lol

Magz Rides Again
Magz Rides Again: I'd like to believe in the possibility of meeting someone online, falling in love and then eventually meeting face to face. I have seen it happen, but simultaneously I have seen it fail epically.

I have had this discussion with a guy on the other side of the globe, but for us it would not be feasible. I have a child and cannot even move out of my state without my exhusband's permission. It is the law. He has family too and they are very close. It would create resentment if he was to move away from them.

With this in mind, we have made to choice to remain friends and friends only. The impracticalities make it an improbable match thus, we make the effort of not allowing any other love than that of friends.

Deepurple: I think LDRs are as serious as the two people want them to be. I definitely believe in it, and say so , having been in one for the past 2 years. He's geographically on the other side of the planet right now, but we trust each other and are always there when the other needs one.

fordbrat: sadly I thinkthe majority of relationships from country to country are a very bad idea and from all the people I have talked to on the subject find that the majority of the people from other countries lie, want a green card, want to bilk u out of money! I had thid happen to me, the thing that gave me a clue was he started asking where i workrd, how much i made, did i have to pay alot of bills, within a week he was begging for me to send him a credit card or cash!! BEWARE

MechaArya: Its a really nice idea... but if you have never met and you wont probably ever meet in person over the course of your relationship. No I don't really think its serious but that's just me. This is the reason why I don't do the super long distance relationships anymore.

Deepesh_Nambiar: i love it when u say "but that's just me...!!"(MechaArya)...
Relationship...its just a word when said loud..but for me relationship means two known or unknown person knowing each other deeply despite (if any) all odds in life. so if u were to sleep at the time he is awake or the vice versa... u will wait for that night or morning just to hear that voice till you meet someday! Phew! I think I used my mind now! Well! that's just me lol
