Chet226: I bought a couple cars from Cars For Causes Charities. The price is right. You can make an offer as much as 15% below the window price. They smog the cars in the areas that require it. You can get an older car that runs great. Cheaper insurance. If they crash or bang it up, No harm ~ No foul! haha

Chet226: Oh, to answer your question LOL google "most reliable used car" or "best car for a single woman" or something. I'm serous! You will find that Honda Accord is one of the most reliable cars on the planet. Being a mechanic for all my friends that's the one I recommend most. My cousin bought a 2002 Hyundai Accent used in 2006 and has been trouble free all through his UCLA days. 5 years later, it has still yet to go to the shop for anything other than an oil change. He's still driving the pants off of it. Being a Chevy man, I'm impressed by these and Then there's my fathers '92 Mitsubishi Gallant that has 220,000 miles on it and still runs like a banchee! I'd get an older version of a Make's top of the line car for that year. Then you have reliability and if there has been any recalls, it's been taken care of by now.

bahcatha: chet226 Go ahead and buy one of these cars with a rubber timing belt and old computer sensors that break or burn out without warning and give it to your daughter so she can be stranded along some highway somewhere.

XWhiteandBlue
XWhiteandBlue: reliable, cheap, safe and not too fast. A small four-cylinder economy sedan or hatchback will be your best bet. An economical small pickup truck could work too. Above all, buy used... it will get scratched/ banged up Honda Civic, Nissan Sentra, Mazda Protege, Mazda 3, Toyota Corolla, Chevy Cobalt, Ford Focus are good options. Small Pickups like the Toyota Tacoma, Nissan Frontier Ford Ranger, are also good. Something between 5-9 years old will give you the best balance between low price and still reliable. SUVs are an option, but they tend to be more costly
Most Suzukis will be a great value as well.
