Has An Insurance Company Tried to Con You ?

LuckyLuckyMe
LuckyLuckyMe: why is it we can't rely on insurance companies being honest with renewals ?

Both my vehicle and house insurance policies were changed quite radically, to the extent that they looked nothing like the policy I bought the previous year.

The excess on my house policy jumped from £100 to £300, on my contents from £50 to £150, access to legal advice was removed completely, my bicycle which was formerly insured under this policy suddenly needed a seperate special mention with its own attached excess. The excess on my car policy jumped from £100 to £350. And the cost of both policies jumped by approximately 15%.

It seems incredible that they value our custom so little. When I took the renewal out of the envelope it didn't come with a blaze of advertising letting me know what a great deal I was getting, it was just a letter reminding me it was time to renew my insurance, and a small booklet suggesting I check the contents and three ways to pay. Well I did check it, and instead of paying I went online searching for the policy I wanted.

Is this your experience too ?

orangemoon8: Con.......look at some of the ways insurance co's are trying to scam you. 1 example here in the States, Progressive has this thing called snapshot, it plugs into your EDR, they say "you're good driving can save you $$. How would they know I'm not driving well? they simply don't trust you. If you install this thing it can actually raise your rates, cause with sudden stops, starts speed etc. What are the causes of sudden stops?, maybe I'm driving down a darkened road thru the woods, lots of deer could just happen to run across the road, which would cause a few sudden stops. Does this mean you're a bad driver?, You didn't hit any deer, so you must be doing something right. The "snapshot", doesn't know this, all it records is the sudden stops. The insurance co, reads it and thinks hey, this guy must not be paying attention, and had to make a few sudden stops. Wow he might be a really bad driver, and we might need to raise his rates cause he could be a risk. This is nothing but a way to make you pay more. Don't ever put one of these things in your car. I have never done this, as I see right thru em, they promise a rate reduction, but with all the flex-rate increases, you won't be saving at all. I have been driving since 1979, no tickets , no points, no at fault accidents and close to 2.5 million miles driving. you think they would trust my driving? Nooooooo to them I am just another risk, who could be possibly lured by a discount.

notsur3ly: Sounds like insurance companies are a scam no matter where you go in the world. I shop around every time an insurance company tells me my rates are going up. 16 years of driving, no tickets, accidents, or crashes. I get punished for being a good driver.
