Birth place of Lord Buddha

karjang: Lumbini is the place in southern Nepal where the newly born prince Siddhartha(known as Buddha) took his first seven steps and uttered an epoch-making message to the suffering Humanity.Buddha was born here on full moon day in 623 BC.The importance of lumbini is testified by the Mouryan emperor Ashoka, who visited lumbini in order to pay homage
to the great master and erected a stone piller in 249 BC bearing an inscription stating “Hida Buddha Jate Sakyamuniti”, which means that Sakyamuni Buddha was born here.
Near the Ashoka piller is the Mayadevi temple which houses the Nativity sculpture depicting the birth scene of the Buddha.The temple also houses the marker stone discovered in 1996 AD which depicts the exact spot where the Buddha was born.Near the Mayadevi temple is situated Puskarni pond where Queen Mayadevi – buddha’s mother, had given first purificatory bath to the infant Buddha.
Krakuchhanda Buddha and Kanakmani Buddha who were exist before Sakyamuni Buddha, were also born near the Lumbini.Kanakmani Buddha was born and enlightened in Niglihawa and Krakuchhanda Buddha was born in Gotihawa. There are still stone piller and stupa in both places built by Emperor Ashoka when he visited the site during his pilgrimage.
Listed as world heritage site by UNESCO in 1997, Lumbini is being developed with international support as per Lumbini master plan created by Prof. Kenzo of Japan.There are different Vihars and Manastries constructed by different countries like Korea, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Combodia, Japan, Germany, France, Austria, India, Shrilanka, China and Nepal.
