thirdlegblind: there is no such thing as a best guitarist. unless every guitarist plays the same music in the same style there can never be a way to compare them. and thank God that they dont. it would be a boring world if they did.

devincal42: I agree with you thirdleg...if we were to break it down by genres within rock you could come to a closer agreement. Hendrix, Iommi, Page, Tipton, Downing, Mick Mars, Shenker, Uli Jon Roth, Satriani, Eddie Van Halen and many more would have to be in the discussion.

thirdlegblind: hendrix was good but he sucked at playing the blues. johnny winter had to constantly play less to allow hendrix to not look bad when ever they jammed. in fact a few times hendrix just stayed on bass and let johnny do his thing. page is good but how does he compare to beck or clapton in the same band? mars? nah. van halen was definately a ground breaker. but what about joe bonamassa or eric sardinas? or larry carlton or vivian campbell or steve lukather? there are just too many and all with different styles. its an impossible question. it all depends on musical taste.

devincal42: Bonamassa = EPIC!! I have seen him live a half dozen times and he is one of the greats. Yeah...I see your point. But in defense of Mick Mars...play some of his riffs...taking out the rest of the band....I do believe he is very underrated.

thirdlegblind: i've met Joe a couple of times and have his autograph on my guitar. he is a great guitarist for sure. mick mars is a good guitarist (after all he is a member of one of L.A.s most sucessfull rock bands) but i just cant see him as one of the best guitarist. are you going to see them play in Las Vegas?
