BEST ROCK GUITARIST toddsc: jimmy page has to be the best but there are so many others that are good;dimebag darrell;eddie van halen;jimi hendrix;peter frampton etc. etc. they were all rock!rock on! M_A_R_S: There's always Joe Satriani. Brian Jones is an underated guitarist, he was a musical genius. Krystof: So many Guitar Gods to pick from, it's really hard to pick just one because of the many different styles. I personally like Stevie Ray Vaughan but also appreciate Slash, Steve Vai, Kenny Wayne Sheppard, Dave Mustaine, Traci Gunns, Vernon Reid, really, this list could go on forever. andrewbarclave: I love metallica and maiden but janick and kirk as best ever, lmao I prefer people who can play Gary Moore, David Gilmore, Dave Murray to name a few Space Lord 2012: I've been thinking about posting this forum for sometime now..However,I've not been able to answer the question.."who's the best rock guitarist?"..There has been so many fabulous, talented and innovative guitarist that has contributed their music to this genre, that I believe this question is impossible to answer. The best guitar players ,in my opinion, were not very good composers and the best composers, weren't the best guitar players..But, style and attitude were the things that actually made a lot of these guys great..and thats something that a Rock-n-Roll guitarist must have, regardless of their skill as a musician..they will soon be unemployed without it. I've been listening to Rock-n-Roll since the late 60s and I've always referred to it as.."my first love"..and I still consider myself a student of the music because it's constantly changing. If you're gonna be a true fan you have to roll with the punches or you may find yourself listening to..(God forbid)..country music. All of you have named some very terrific guitarist's and I'm sure that YOU'RE ALL CORRECT.Here is my observation on a few of your choices.. Jimi Hendrix~ Jimi was a rock-n-roll pioneer and he has influenced more guitarist's and done more for the music then almost anyone..except for one guy..(I'll get around to him)..There should be a statue of him on the white house lawn. Jimmy Page~In my opinion..the absolute best composer of the music, his style and musical knowledge was un-equaled..I honestly didn't think he could play that well.Led Zeppelin didn't have a single star..They were all stars and each of them could follow Jimmy through a song regardless of where he may take it..And they could make it sound good while they were doing it. Slash~ I honestly don't care for him..however,I'll give him an A for attitude and style because thats what actually made him famous. Joe Satriani~ I love this guy, however he needs an image overhaul. He needs a few lessons from Slash.. Joe Bonamassa~ I love Joe's music..check out "mountain time" or the Zeppelin remake.."tea for one".Joe is a blues/rock fusion guitarist..These guy's never really make it big, except for.. Stevie Ray Vaughn~ Stevie Ray Vaughn was a studio musician that caught a break..(well deserved)..from David Bowie.David hired Stevie to play on the album.."china girl"..listen to that song as well as.."lets dance" and you'll be able to pick him out immediately..he made enough money from that gig to rent a studio for 24 hours..and thats how long it took Stevie to record his first album.Stevie was a full package player,style..skill and attitude. He was far from being the best though.. Before I forget,I'd like to give the guy who started this genre and named the music.."Rock-n-Roll"..an honorable mention.I'm sure that he was the best player of his generation and he was so good that he even broke through the racial barrier's of the 1950s..Chuck Berry..Was he the best? Nope..The best rock guitarist may not have been born yet..But they've ALL contributed something to the music..Hail! Hail! Rock~n~Roll.. andrewbarclave: I've got to correct you space lord, jimmy page wasn't a great songwriter cause he didn't write his own songs, he claimed to but basically covered songs and called them originals. He went down in my view when i heard that but having said that he is still good. Space Lord 2012: Pardon me,but I said composer..not song writer. Those are 2 different things,if my memory serves me correctly. I've got the whole Zeppelin CD collection, and if I weren't a lazy bum, I'd get up and look at the credits on the labels..However, I've been looking at them practically my whole life and I seem to remember page/plant being listed on the majority of the songs as the writers of said song..I'm sure that they never wrote them all.I believe that they lost a lawsuit to Willie Dixon after they had stolen.."Whole lotta love"..from him. Thanks for the comment.. Basque1989: I think someone should have included Duane Allman, but I have to go with Jimi. I read an article one time where Eric Clapton was quoted telling someone who was entering a Hendrix concert to "bring an umbrella, because all the guitarists in the building are crying." | Music Chat Room 21 People Chatting Similar Conversations |
