All time top guitarists (Page 7)
GypseyGirl: (My 1st time posting on any Chatgroup, ever.) Jimmy Page and what do you guys think of John Mayer's playing?
missoulabob: I vote for Gary Moore. I have never heard anybody play the guitar like him. If i am correct i think Gary Moore also played with Thin Lizzy for awhile. RIP Garry you are missed.
Soupbean: I’m with you brother, Mick Ronson.., what monster guitarist..! Melody and rhythm accompaniment, along with his leed playing.., so much personality and presence..!
A perfect match to Bowie’s unique style.
I grew up in the 70s and 80s and really started getting into music then. There are so many great guitarist with their own style. The first person I really noticed as being a good overall guitarist was when I was 12 or 13, Peter Frampton. Don’t laugh.., he’s actually a very good guitarist. I’ve got about five or six people who’s playing I think is exceptional..
Of course Jimmy Page, no explanation needed. I’ve always loved Alex Lifeson, so unique and imaginative.., Alex and Jimmy are the only guitarist’s that can bring tears to my eyes listening to their playing. Steve Howe.., listen to any Yes song with Steve Howe sitting in, self explanatory.. Neil Young, anything from slow melodies and ballads to very hard rock.., an awesome musician..! Bryan May.., again, so unique and a great accompaniment to one of the greatest groups of all time. Lindsey Buckingham, always loved his style of playing. A great musician and songwriter. Stage presence.., right up there with pretty much anyone I’ve mentioned previously.
Going to throw in my favorite bassists in no particular order. Paul McCartney, Chris Squire, Geddy Lee.
ROCKZinger: What makes a guitarist "great"? Speed of play? Innovation? Artistic originality? Simplicity of expression? Is it the guitarist who can fire off 30 arpeggios in four bars or the guitarist who can with just a few notes and move the listener to tears? I don't know!! But, my fave guitarists are Garry Moore, Jerry Harrison, Mike McCready and Tommy Emmanuel.
WessDime: Malmsteen, satriani, vai, paul gilbert, friedman, hammett, petrucci, michael romeo...
Check me out playin, hope you like
Evelyn99: Perhaps Jimmy Hendrix? Or the guy from Pantera who died tragically getting shot on stage. He was awesome
cloudygrey33: Michael Hedges - Django Reinhardt- Stanley Jordan- Phil Keaggy- Chet ATkins, Jimi Hendrix (for doing things no one was doing at the time) Reverend Horton Heat, Monte Montgomery- Some of my personal faves... Might not make a lot of lists (other than Hendrix), but these guys are all guitar super heroes.
