Steve Vai is just awesome, just listen to Yankee Rose with David Lee Roth, that is one awesome piece of guitar work. Also any of his own albums display his skill. When he played with Whitesnake he did'nt really get a forum to show his skill.

Yngwie J. Malmsteen, not only a skilled guitar virtuoso but incredibly diverse has a guitarist & a musician.

RandyRolfe: I just need to say this... Metal guitarist aren't that good... They play by learning technics and by memory. Not by skill or imagination. Kirk Hammet didn't even write most of Metallica's music. And as for Zakk Wyled, he only added on to Randy Rhodes who wasn't that good... And anyone that say Tony Iommi needs to get the head examined. Sabbath songs are classic, BUT you can learn a Sabbath song in a day. It would be like saying that that douche bag in Linkin Park is a good guitarist. Fx^@ the guys play a chord every four beats! you kow what no one said David Gilmore.... Or Syd Barret... Or Lou Reed.... Or Bob Marley... or any other 60's or 70's hero! What about Kirk Cobain while we are in the mainstream mode? And you know what? Prine, yes PRINCE, couls play guitar around Adam Jones, from Tool. Granted it's all about interpretation but if I stat seeing the guitarist or Disturbed metioned I'm going to lose a gasket!
