robbr7: There sure are some great War movies out there. I've always loved History so I tend to follow the facts as found in History books. I want to see if the facts show up on the movie screen. Probably the best War movie for factual information is, "THE LONGEST DAY". By the way the book is great too. Saving Private Ryan is a great movie as well. The "D Day" Normandy Beach landings are realistic and accurate when compared with any accounts from the Soldiers who were there.
Not so long ago I saw an amazing motion picture, The movie is
"HACKSAW RIDGE". It tells of the Astonishing story of Private Desmond Doss during his years in the U.S. Army during World War 2. Pvt. Doss was a Medic, A Medic who received the Medal of Honor for his heroics in saving the lives of 75 Soldiers who were
casualties left on Hacksaw ridge after the Soldier's Units had retreated. Without having been ordered to do so Pvt. Doss stayed behind, alone and was able to get 75 injured soldiers to safety and to Medical Treatment. A Most amazing movie about a most amazing American Solider!

Angry_Groceries: I think that Saving Private Ryan is one of the best war movies. I base that off of the below listed standards. Although I had trouble with the end as a handful of Rangers an a squad of Airborne would have been cut down by the company of German soldiers and the tanks and the antiaircraft guns. Not to mention that it was a two prong attack. But I digress. As to what is the "best"...that depends upon your standards. Historically accurate? Most compelling? Captures the most epic event? Best attended and most popular? Most critically acclaimed? To many different view to make an accurate assessment.
