Another book I recommend (to everyone I ever talk with) is "The City and the Stars" by Sir Arthur C. Clarke - set millions of years in the future and tells the tale of the last city on Earth and one young inhabitant's quest to break the solitude and fear of the city's creators and venture outside, to re-discover the world and the universe and what drove humanity back onto Earth GreekAmazon: I read Filokalia it consists of 6 book of Orthodox Christian Mysticism from the beggining of christianity till the last centrury. It is actually the writting of the saints of our church. They describe inside how they lived their relationship to God the "Divine Eros" the spiritual warfare and so many other interesting things. Its not easy to read books but very interesting. These books are full of wisdom. Strongly recommended to the researchers of Truth!!! GreekAmazon: Actually I will never stop studying the above mentioned books I adore them!!!!They take me closer to wisdom!!!! mirand: I just finished the tale of teh body thief, now i'm reading The Vampire Lestat also by Anne Rice soloturtle: Recently finished "The Glory and the Dream" by William Manchester. It's a narrative history of the United States from 1933 through 1973. Very interesting in that it gets one up to speed on the evolution of current events and happenings. Also, struggling through Fyodor Dostoevsky's "Notes From Underground". Being that it's about a man who hates himself, the people around him and the world at large, I thought I would love it. And, re-read Frank McCourt's "Angela's Ashes" and "Tis" because they are moving, funny and flow through one's mouth like liquid chocolate. WolfofShadows: lets see...well i jus finished DragonLight which is the last book in the Dragon Keeper saga and hav now started to read Wyvern Hall which is by Amelia Artwood Rhodes and its about shapeshifters livin in a wrld tha for 5yrs was corrupted by war wit the serpentiente or w/e vs the avians and this war was started way bck by the falcons so then the serpent prince and the avian princess decided they must be wed to ensure peace for further generations and since they hav animal and human forms and well they may be enemies as an animal but they r still part human so they wrk it all out they hav a daughter and she then falls in luv wit a wolf after bein kidnapped and shes surrendered Wyverns court cuz if she were to rule it then it wuld be destroyed and now in this book its about a girl names Hai who is part falcon and serpent who is always lost in visions and was rescued by Nicias a long time ago and brought to Wyverns court and now shes tryin to save it basically... soloturtle: The only thing better than books is cheap books! I stopped by a thrift store the other day and picked up "The Notebook" "The Complete Jane Austen" "The World According to Garp" and "The Spoils of Poynton" all for one single solitary dollar. Read "The Notebook" kind of sappy (I saw the movie a while ago) but it does tug at the heart-strings and although I am jaded and cynical in my old age, I like to read a good love story now and then. Next up is Poynton....short stories by Henry James. For a quarter it can't be too bad. katarzenanana: Yes! Cheap Books!!! I ordered a Tom Robbins book on Amazon for $.69!!!! Thats a steal if you dont mind used books! | Books Chat Room 1 Person Chatting Similar Conversations |
