techno_hedonist: I'd like to know more about Russian literature--it has so many passionate and devoted followers. I read Solzhenitsyn's One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich in my first year of university and I'd like to read more. Think I'll keep an eye on this thread to see what else comes up.

daydreams
daydreams: dostoyevsky ; notes from the underground was good, mainly abt him in jail, with fantastic thinking.anton checkhov, short stories was great actually, really russian good reading, nothing complicated but deep and humanitys. Tolstoys views on life to me were like henery davids, only Tolstoy was more religous i think, very moralistic and humanity fights for rights, gotta love them.

DieFerrie: I'm a fan of Pushkin, Tolstoy, and Dostoevski. War and Peace was so good. Prince Andrei completely failed at life but his prideful, solitary tree moments are so good.

chronology
chronology: Tolstoy, Chekhov, Dostoevsky. The Russians seem to have a gift for making everyday events and mundane choirs interesting. You find your self asking yourself; 'why am I reading this'? as you sit riveted to a mundane situation unfolding in their Books. And then there is that cutting perception and insight Russians have when looking at events and people. They are almost Psychic in uncovering the secret motives and designs of people.

chronology
chronology: True. And love does as well. Was there ever a love story like Kitty and Levin in Anna Karenina? Yet here again we see this Russian insight. Amidst the love and joy Levin feels for his wife and new born child, surrounded by security and without any real problems, Levin spends much of his time brooding about committing suicide.
