can anyone help me? im a little worried about my cat darkvixenkillu: ok so i have a male neutered cat (Aslan) around 11 to 12 yrs old. hes an indoor/outdoor cat. now recently he's been acting like Mr macho cat and been starting fights with the stray cats around my neighborhood. i know he started two of them because i saw it happen. anyways as a result i think the little dummy got bitten near his tail. as a result he has a semi soft lump near his tail that seems to be loosing hair and it painful when pressed on. i\I'm not too concerned about the lump itself since I've had cats with these and they usually drain themselves in a few days. but a bite from another cat could transmit some sort of disease and i really worried about the feline leukemia disease more than anything. does any one know how much a Feline Leukemia vaccine costs?or whether a vet will charge you to view your pets vaccination records. or how long the FiV vaccine is good for? i know he's had the vaccination i just cannot for the life of me remember when, only that its been within the past 6 years. if anyone can provide me with some answers Aslan and I would certainly appreciate it. X_Centric: First thing is, you're rushing to conclusions. Have a vet see the lump and his tail, and you'll see if he needs the vaccine or not, and then the vet will also tell you about it. The reason for the fights could be that other cats are going into his "territory", his turf. http://www.2ndchance.info/vaccat.htm <--- I think that'll be helpful, just googled it. (Post deleted by jellybean_ ) mary: another good reason for keeping pets inside ...mine are never out side except in their own kennel...no fleas no diseases X_Centric: Yes, but animals have feelings and humours too... they need to change environments or they'll get bored. If you trap a person for years in the same place, you can see life leaving them as they age... Serabi: I think your little fighter might be too old for Feline Leukemia. Tummy, our fighter is a serious candidate for Feline AIDS, I think that is what you meant. The bump may be an abscess or just an engorged gland. In SA we get notified by the State veterinarian when to vaccinate against Rabies, usually when there is an outbreak of rabies. PS: A fighter is a fighter. Tummy is a fighter even though he was neutered at a young age. darkvixenkillu: ok so Aslan is doing much better now and i can actually see the mark where the other cats tooth went in (its a pretty deep hole just above where the abscess formed.) i found a way to keep him from licking at it since he kept opening up the deep hole, though it still oozes a thin layer of blood (sort of semi transparent..it looks a bit like jelly i guess). i have been keeping a sharp eye on him to make sure there are no signs of infection. with any luck i can let him outside again by Wednesday (he usually goes out during the day, which is good for both of us cause he yowls up a storm if he's cooped up for too many days. and needles to say he's been yowling at me for the last 4 days to let him out). | Animals Chat Room 12 People Chatting Similar Conversations |
