CAN WE CHANGE THE VIEW OF PIT BULLS? (Page 2) snowmeows: i have a wonderful pit bull and she is very very good... she hasnt bit anyone... but does protect me. i took her from a man who abused her..... she has been in our home with no training but she is great... loves our cat and us...... you couldnt ask for a better dog........ i would say that all the pits i have had were wonderful and very loyal....and we dont train them to attack anyone.. they protect automatically..... we dont sic them on anyone.... they are like any other dogs... smarter maybe..... i have had king shepards and all kinds.. but i would stick with a pitbull.. very sweet ... sooooooooooooo there you go............ i would reconmend them for anyone with kids or without kids...... like anyohter dogs, i would recommend a fence and make sure it is a secure one.. and this is for any dog.. i dont care what kind............... thanks for listening to my ramble. have a great day....  larryhemeon: I owned several Pits over the years, as a good tripping partner, they are the best, they know everything thats happening and know what your thinking, more so than any other breed I have owned. The problem that I found is they are gangsters at heart, killing is what they truly want to do. I don't know if ya all have ever seen two pits go at it, but there is no barking, and their tails are wagging the entire time, the are doing their desire. I started raising them as a kid on a farm, the first one out of show stock, Rommel, showed no agressive attitude, unless I was boxing him, went down to the river with me, there was a dog on the other side with his owners Rommel swam the river and ripped the dogs throat out in about 15 sec. There was a bunch of trouble between the owners and myself that I won't go into, Have owned 3 others and not as serious of problems but had to watch each. I love the bred but when I hear about a nice dog killing a human, I understand the call for genocide. To the wolf owner, Rommel was 4, I had a bitch in heat and a wolf came visiting, I put buckshot,(salt) in his ass to break up the fight before I went to work, Got home, wife said they started fighting again 30 min. after I left and stopped 1 hour before I got home, Rommel was a blond, that day he was red, black and blue. He layed down, did not get up for 3 days, never saw the wolf again. envogue: NO U CAN'T until owners start taking responsibility. Problem being is there are too many idiots out there that have no clue, they get these dogs for status etc. I THINK that to acquire a pittie (and any of those other breeds that were bred for fighting) U SHOULD HAVE TO PAY TO TAKE A COURSE, $3000, then after passing, u pay $2-3000 for one. i LOVE cesar milan AND i do agree that its the owners NOT THE DOGS PROBLEM, BUT, fact is this is the way it is, society, dumb a-holes getting these breeds with no care in the world, and have no clue how to train them!!! larryhemeon: you may be correct, the pits I have owned went beyond my training, The new Stafshire Terrier, different face, jaws, and body, I dont know about, honestly, don't like their looks, but it is said that the agressiveness has been bred out of them, will see. To tell the truth, the old style and the (I will kill you if I decide), appeals to me and makes them more of a partner than something owned. envogue: no matter what, the laws have to change, animal abusers need HARSH sentences, well canada's laws need to change regardless regarding everything, ya know, but all countries don't treat animal abuse the way it should be, its HORRIBLE, and if i could, i'd be a meanie ace ventura, i'd SEEK OUT the animal abusers then take care of them in my own way, they'd never see the light again lols, i'm a huge animal lover, and its not their fault if the stupid owner doesn't have a clue how to train them, i have an australian kelpie, shes my first dog, and i had no clue how to train a dog, i was very lucky, she is so friggin smart, calm, she's EVERYTHING!!! and i've read cesar's book (just one so far) but i watch his show religiously, i've learned so much from him.
larryhemeon: It took 200 years to breed different aggressive terriors to piss off bulls in Spain, that's how the breed came to be, might take a few more generations to get it out of the Pit Bulls soul.. PurrPanther: I love pitbulls to death. They can be agressive just like any other dog raised and trained to be like that. From my experience with them, when they are normally raised, they are sweet, loving, caring and loyal. larryhemeon: I have found pits will react to sudden movements or a preceived threat to the owner or family of the dog. One thing I did while the dog was quite young was to throw my face at him continually I think it made him a bit slower to react, I've seen several with faces bit,  Serabi: I believe the breed should be eradicated. Don't put them down, just refuse to let them breed. All animals are individuals, agreed, but the KILLER INSTINCT was bred into a very powerful dog. Most owner attacks are by pitbulls, usually fatal. I had friends with two beautiful Greyhounds. The family also had cats. Everybody got along famously till one day when the dogs were lying in the garden and one of the cats ran past. Both dogs jumped up and it was only a few seconds before they grabbed the cat and actually ripped it in two. Everybody was totally distraught. The dogs KNEW the cat, but, Greyhounds have been bred to chase after a speeding furry thing. INSTINCT. I have the utmost respect for Cesar Milan. I loved Daddy till he died and adore Junior. Junior needs to be watched very carefully though. He has a streak that Daddy never had. Cesar is a person with an amazing talent, but how many other people like him are there? Eradicate the breed!!!! At the wolf lady... I adore wolves and there is no comparison between them and pitbulls. Wolves evolved naturally to hunt for food, not kill for pleasure or the taste of blood. My baby, just died of cancer, but she would not harm a fly unless it was eating my food. I never once in my life had such a loyal and perfect dog... she was my baby.. for 7 yrs. .and she would lick you to death before she would eat you ... sheeeessshhhhhhhhh ... look at the whole picture all, not just a few stories... I rescued my girl, and she did not harm anyone even when she was off her leash..... but then again she wouldnt let anyone harm me either... she never never never, in her years with me ever hurt a child , cat, dog or anyone at all..... she loved everyone and everything............ We are civilized people but would go into a killer mode if the need arises. I would kill to defend my son, husband AND two Great Danes. I will! I'm sorry you lost your baby, I truly am. We lost our 3-year old English Bull dog 2 months ago. I still cry for him. I'm not deriding your specific dog. SA is smaller than the USA, when there is a dog killing, we hear about it more. People created pit bulls, it is not their fault. Now it is time to correct that mistake.  uglybetty1: I have 3 pit /labs and I love them to death. I watched them being born,,,and they are my babies.. I was always scared of pits and rottys...because i believed all of the hype. However, I babysat a friends's pit when she was 6 weeks old...AND I FELL IN LOVE WITH HER! I simply saw her as a puppy and with lots of TLC SHE WAS THE SWEETEST THING , EVER....and so it is with the current three. We romp together and they are alway so happy to see me when I arrive home.Unfortunately our local pound is filled with pits and no one wants them because they are labeled as, "dangerous". Therefore, their fate is sealed! No one gives them a chance...and assholes continue to breed then for fighting. Personally, those assholes deserve tp be locked in a pen & have their fate sealed!!!!! larryhemeon: The dog was bred for fighting over 500 years, the old school was only what we need, not an extra expense, so the Pits only use was to be aggressive to a much larger animal. and have the jaw that would lock on the tail of a bull. And if you have noticed the Pit bull does not feel pain, there nervous system is opiated. It's really quite remarkable to make a an animal that does not care about its own health, but rather its desire to bite. Making one a loving pet is not impossible, all dogs like humans but to get its natural genetic killer instinct out of the breed will take several more generations. up until maybe the last 50 years the dogs were still only bred to guard and fight. Iremember there were a few show animals around, but not many in fact my first Pit was show stock, just a beautiful dog raised on a farm, and for the most part got along with the livestock due to the positive reinforcement of a crow bar. Spike lived to be 10, the only real damage he did was to my 70 lb doberman, spent 300 dollars on his ears, was a waste of money, I think spike just wanted to teach him a lesson, not really hurt him. I realized when he was about 14 months that he could kill me anytime he wanted to, spike knew well before. He did however bit a neighbor in tha ass due to his running close to smaller children and he knew I did not like the man I love Pit bulls but sure dont want to hear about another death due to theire capabilites. Course the other problem is train the dog to do damage, and you cant really judge that either, they just want and need a dog that will do their bidding for protection or whatver their lifestyle is. I feel it would be fair to charge the masters for the wrong doing of the dog You know if the dog has killing desires, and any tract record should be a death sentence. I tried to get a girlfriend to kill her Pit due to biting a child, after 4 more incidents of stiches the dog was terminated, although against Georgia's will. I was told growing up that they have some sort of deformity in their brain because of how their jaws grow - Puts pressure on their skull or some such nonsense. I just blindly accepted it through the years and was fearful of pits being unpredictable. Of course this was made worse by all the news reports through the years of pits killing kids/etc... I was very anti-pit once upon a time. Now I know it is just bullshit and the problem is (of course) with people- Not the dogs. 9 out of 10 times if there is a problem- A human being standing at the center of it! haha! Good rule of thumb to go by. That being said- I'm still not completely sold on them being great companions for super young children just because they're so strong and do have the potential to injure them pretty seriously.
