The forces of erosion are very apparent in this picture of the ridge towering above The Knolls. Springs and water seeps cause gullies to be cut sharply into the rounded shapes of the hillsides. Note how trees have emerged from those gullies because of the increased amount of moisture that they can find there. Another large patch of Lupin has come into view.

We can see an unofficial, unsanctioned trail that leads from the top of the ridge steeply down the face of the hillside. This rough trail exists because bold, intrepid sightseers spot this lovely place from the top of the ridge (where the paved road runs), and clamber down to it.
