Someone blocks me after they post on my wall Geoff: If someone posts something defamatory (or at least just mindlessly ignorant) on my profile, and then blocks me - does wire result in the sort of behaviour you can see in the screenshot I recently posted? th0r 88's Picture I have deleted the post, three well crafted and polite responses all resulted in the same result in the screenshot, two further tests in different browsers did the same. I am guessing it is down to how the blocking and posting on walls thing works. I do think it needs review - especially since there is still the problem of receiving updates from ex friends, even ones who are blocked. Yes, it may seem like a minor problem, and one that slips through the flowchart - but these are human beings - and most of them are irrational. Geoff: Sorry - I should point out, I don't care about getting a "last word" - if I leave a debate, then good for those who continue it. But if you block someone, can we have it added to the function that all correspondence you had on their profile, or any threads they start, is deleted. Geoff: I deleted it. Wire should perhaps be more human - it's not tough to prevent, it just requires a little thought. lori100: If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you, If all men count with you, but none too much Robot Seb: Blocking only prevents posts from a user ID from appearing once a block is made, but doesn't have the ability to remove old posts. xolaurenxo: Do ya pics come up in blocked ex friends home feed if someone comments on them? I have an old friend here I deleted because he used to pick fights with all my friends and he complains when my old pics resurface in his feed I haven't blocked him though...wondering if that would help?? Robot Seb: Old posts including pics posted to profiles reappear anytime a person comments on them which bumps them to the top of everyone's homepage including blocked people. All that can be done for now is to delete and re-upload the image to the profile which they wouldn't be able to reply to. Sorry for the inconvenience. Geoff: It may be a terrible thing to suggest, but perhaps Wire could move to PHP on a LAMP server, rather than ASP on a **shudder** Windows server? Maybe less problems you just recoded the whole website in something not designed for Windows? Geoff: Because you know, there's all this stuff floating around that is open-source and would avoid stuff like this? Robot Seb: This helps explain it but in short, it's a one-of-a-kind platform that uses a CEP engine which is unique to our community. http://www.wireclub.com/development Geoff: It was more the lack of flexible coding than the actual DB interface (which, when it comes down to it, is more an issue of performance than functionality). The question in not in the language your database uses, but the questions you ask it. |
