Wireclub app is needed.... No mobile uploads?

lostnthenight
lostnthenight: Wireclub needs a app, seriously, time to stop making excuses and just make one.
Its very inconvenient that i can't upload pictures from my smart phone.
What's that? try different browsers? i'm on my 11th browser and still no way to upload, whats that? upload to my computer then to wireclub? Ok, so i should rush home every time i take a picture? Wanna pay my transportation costs?

Whats that? android and ios have some software thingymabobber, and thingymajig that makes it impossible to make a app for wire?
Facebook, myspace, have apps, i can upload to them no problem, hell theres a metal/goth social media site that has it too and their not much bigger then wire.
Having the app would also improve the resizing and lag on mobiles.
Mobile social media is growing at huge rate, go look at the sales rate per year for mobile and desktop computers. Mobiles have been increasing in sales at insane rates every year and desktops have been dropping.

Anyways, time to make a Tim Hortons trip for coffee.... lacking caffine... and timbits...

Robot Seb: Ios doesn't process Java very well although Chrome and Safari are the best to use on devices with Ios. Androids work as well with Mozilla mobile browser. Most older phones that are Java-based can also access Wire on Opera Mini mobile browser.

Wire also adds new features on a bi-weekly basis which other sites don't and would require an app to also be updated just as often. Facebook hasn't updated their service in over 2 years and Myspace probably even longer than that which is why apps work for them and not for Wireclub.

Since the regular site can be accessed via mobile browsers as a large amount of people already do that, there isn't a need for a dedicated app.

lostnthenight: Not being able to upload images is a issue that warrants a app. Wire doesn't like mobile browsers, doesn't matter which one you use, you will have pretty much identical issues, lag and resizing lag. It would even be nice to have a wire chat/messenger app...

Robot Seb: I definitely agree that it would be awesome if Wire had a dedicated app but there are a few reasons in addition to what's already been mentioned. From a developer's standpoint, let's use Facebook's platform for example and it will give an idea of things.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Facebook_Platform - "The Facebook Platform is a software environment provided by the social networking service Facebook for third-party developers to create their own applications and services that access data in Facebook.

The platform offers a set of programming interfaces and tools which enable developers to integrate with the "open graph" of personal relations and other things like songs, places, and Facebook pages. Applications on Facebook.com, external websites, and devices are all allowed to access the graph."

In short terms, Facebook allows 3rd party services the ability to access data within Facebook's framework as it's an "open-framework" of sorts. Wireclub has a unique, custom built framework which not only prevents 3rd party services from accessing data within our framework, we actually rely on that as part of our security system and is a major reason why Wireclub remains secure.

In Ios's case, not just 1 but several frameworks are used which as mentioned adds access points in addition to compatibility issues as our framework evolves over time. Within a few weeks, the framework might be completely different to address changes or updates to our service and would require the app to be constantly updated.

A big aspect to Wire's development revolves around "CEP" or "complex events processing". So far we are the only social network that has integrated a custom CEP platform into our framework and would probably be impossible to be integrated into a mobile version. CEP is basically a means for a computer to interpret data, in other words, our system can think in real-time and can generate complex events as a result.

Hopefully this helps explain it a bit.

Robot Seb: Hello! It's the way the phone's camera is setup to take images in either "landscape" or "portrait" mode. Although I don't have an iphone, I was told you can change those settings depending on the model you have.

lostnthenight: I was putting some thought into what you said about how wire works, and it reminded me of something familiar.
Lets say wire represents NA auto companys ford/dodge etc and facebook and other mobile friendly social sites represents toyota, nissian etc.
Now the NA invested time and money in gas guzzling suv's(gas guzzling suv's represents desktops) while toyota etc invested in fuel efficient cars.
Toyota became number one in NA, while the NA auto companies had to get bailouts.
On wire's present course i can see a small bubble forming with growth, but at some point that bubble will burst and wire will become stale.

If wire isnt compatible with apps, i think wire should start working towards making wire more mobile friendly.
Facebook has more then 100,000,000+ app downloads and is number 1 in apps downloads, even the facebook messenger app has 100,000,000+ downloads these stats should tell you how big the mobile social site market is.

Robot Seb: It's not as easy as it sounds though plus Wire does have a mobile version which works with most mobile web browsers, it's just not a dedicated app.

LittleStarberryQueen: Mine doesn 't work. The chat room and pm screens are way too big. It's hard to send message or pms. You accidentally close tabs. It's complicating on a phone.
