Toddlers & Tiaras (Page 2) joedanuke: This show is just a highly publicized example of parents living vicariously through their children. Whether it be pageant moms or, (here in Canada), hockey parents whose sons are all going to the NHL, it just underlines the sad truth that most of us have unfulfilled dreams that some will go to extreme lengths to realize. (Post deleted by lavendar_star ) PralineQueen: To be honest... all of the "WARNING!" messages are just as annoying and spamrific as the actual spam. lavendar_star: Your got a point there ^^^ lol but to go back on topic I see they have another series of toddlers and Tiara (I only know from watching the soup which is show take takes the piss out of TV shows) where's the demand coming from the mind wonders and worries about it. PralineQueen: Oh... great. I'm pretty sure TLC just knows that people will watch it because they hate it, and because it's so controversial. I don't think anyone watches that because they actually like it. lavendar_star: Yes your probably right lets hope that nobody actually enjoys it and if they do they are probably on some list somewhere, even scarier would be that children are watching, the mind boggles. The clip I saw on that show had the same girl (about 3/4) whose mum made her dress like the Julie Roberts's Pretty woman character, yes as the prostitute lol and despite the public out cry the mum is still dress the girl like a tramp. What can you say!!!!!! PralineQueen: Dear lord. You are probably right. That was a sad story. What good parents... getting them kids started out the right way. SomeChick93: The existance of pageant kid's shows, in my personal opinion, is a clear view of how far parents are willing to go to fulfill their own "dreams" (no matter how twisted they can be). It makes me sick how this behavior can be so openly accepted, when from every angle I see it, I come to the same conclution: CHILD ABUSE. StuckInTheSixties: I don't think it's "openly accepted." I think those things are on television because they're freak shows. They display aberrant behavior. The whole point of it being on the air is to make you feel disgusted with those twisted mothers. little lady bug: I watch the show and i see your point on some of it... however, child predators arent looking for little girls and boys dressed like prostitutes.... have you ever seen the victims of these predators.....they like the kids because they are innocent and little and sweet.... the poster child would be like shirley temple. I dont like the sugar and caffine crap they do to the kids its not right... but the dress up and all many of the kids love! Its a glorified game fo dress up with a winner in the end... do the kids who loose get sad? YES! But i cried when i lost a soccer game at that age.... so whats the difference? Every time a kid is being yelled at or disciplined cant be considered abuse... i do agree many of the moms are coo coo for coacoa puffs but the kids are just fine.... SomeChick93: StuckInTheSixties: I see your point, and I agree, but what I've seen on T.V (not only on this show, but in others where they may not be as "extreme" as this one) is that this kind of pageants are openly accepted as part of the US culture (specially in the south I think), and not criticized as they should. little lady bug: so your problem is that some one needs to criticize them? I have rarely heard any one say any thing positive about them..i mean pay attention to the show, the music they play with each mom and the way they play things portray each mom in the light they wan them to be seen in. the show itself is tough on the moms.... they even edit the monolouges to make them seem crazy ,....if they dont look crazy we wont watch ... SomeChick93: mrshaskins: First of all, who is talking about child predators? Abuse doesn't only apply to physical one, there's also PSYCHOLOGICAL abuse, something which I'm more than sure is affecting this pageant kids. How can you compare a soccer game with this child explotation? Yes, many kids probably love getting dressed and putting some make up on, but there's more than that in this "game" (and if you don't know that you are as fucked up as those mothers are). And about the criticize comment: I don't think we should just "criticize them", but stop this, as I said before, child explotation, that most probably will have repercusions on the kids life in the near future...or watching this and laughing is worth the kids psychological stability? little lady bug: Or...the TV just like the news and the newspapers and magazines is on letting you know the parts they want you to know and you arent seeing it as a whole specturm of ideas just negative ideas. I am not saying i agree with or disagree with the moms. But i do believe it is impoprtant to know your child as a person before entering them in a pagent where they are competing for titles. If your childs self worth is based on their waiste size, and looks...then i think this can really screw a kid up. If your child was raised the right way they know self worth should come from with in and that it is just a beauty pagent. Very few and far between children on the show look to me like they are both spoiled with gifts and attention which so you are aware a growiing epidemic in this country is people no giving their child the ladder. I think its something to take a stand on and seem noble.. SomeChick93: Knowing your child as a PERSON? At what, 6 or 7 years old? C'mon... Please, at that age they are so easily influenced by the enviorment, and in an enviorment like that, where "physical beauty" is the most important thing, the results can't be good. However, it seems like we won't get to an agreement, so, agree to disagree? TonyFilmLA: Absolutely the creepiest show on the planet... it's an hour-long commercial for pedophiles. |
