Domestic Violence in College

Pauli08: Just wanted to see if anyone could relate to me. [short version]

My first year living away from home I met this man who worked at my school a few years older then me. We quickly hit it off and everything was great until he lost his job 2 months into the relationship. After that the abuse started. The psychological/emotional control, the physical abuse, the sexual trauma.

I've been threatened to be killed, had a knife put at my throat, choked, slapped, pushed, raped repeatedly, and had my car taken. I was forced to sell drugs and not attend school if my bruises showed and during this entire experience he made me believe it was all my fault. My finances and my freedom belonged to him.

I finally left after he threatened that I would "get it when [I] came home" so that day I finally decided to tell a friend who then convinced me to tell the police. I never went back.

No I am planning on becoming a victims advocate for domestic violence and sexual assault victims. My need to help people who went through this same ordeal has helped me cope with my own loss.

I just celebrated my one-year anniversary from leaving this relationship. =D

Pauli08: Very much so. And the only way to stop the cycle is to realize your in it and ready to leave it.
